Crescent Falls Provincial Recreational Area offers a scenic mountain getaway in central Alberta, featuring dramatic waterfalls along the Bighorn River. Located 22 km west of Nordegg in the foothills region, this intimate campground accommodates both RV and tent campers with 21 RV sites and 9 walk-in tent sites nestled among tall conifers.
The main draw is the spectacular Crescent Falls and surrounding waterfalls, accessible via newly renovated viewing platforms and staircases. The Bighorn Canyon Trail (3 km one-way) offers moderate hiking with elevated vistas of the cascading water. RV campsites feature water hookups, grills, fire rings, and picnic tables, while the campground provides toilet facilities and access to firewood.
Beyond hiking, visitors enjoy fishing in the Bighorn River, geocaching, and equestrian access via the Bighorn Meadows Trail for backcountry exploration. The park's small, well-treed setting delivers a peaceful, intimate camping experience in the foothills landscape.
Note: The Bighorn River and waterfalls present significant hazards due to fast-moving, cold water and strong currents—visitors must remain behind barriers and in designated areas. Winter access requires 4X4 vehicles. Summer access is via Highway 11 and a scenic 6 km gravel road.
