Pasagshak State Recreation Site is a scenic 25-acre campground located on the Kodiak Peninsula in Alaska, situated where the Pasagshak River meets the salt waters of Pasagshak Bay. This remote recreation site offers one of the few dedicated camping areas outside of downtown Kodiak, accessible via the Chiniak Highway.
The campground features six tent campsites and six RV parking spaces (40-foot size limit) available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum seven-night stay. Facilities include hand-pump well water, accessible toilets, and four picnic shelters, making it suitable for families and groups.
Visitors are drawn to Pasagshak for its exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. Sport fishing in the Pasagshak River is a primary attraction, with salmon and Dolly Varden abundant in seasonal runs. The location also supports kayaking, beachcombing, and wildlife viewing—brown bears, whales, seals, dolphins, bald eagles, and sea bird colonies are commonly observed throughout the year.
The dramatic coastal scenery and river setting create an immersive wilderness experience while remaining accessible. The site's remote character and proximity to pristine salmon rivers make it ideal for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking authentic Kodiak island camping.
