Teklanika River Campground sits at Mile 29 on the Denali Park Road, serving as the second-largest campground within Denali National Park. This forested, high-elevation retreat (2,580 feet) offers 53 campsites in a brushy, wet setting ideal for those seeking immersion in Alaska's wild landscape.
Each site features a picnic table and fire grate, with potable water and restroom facilities distributed throughout the grounds. While the campground lacks RV hookups and shower facilities, its strategic location provides unparalleled access to Denali's interior and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities.
Teklanika is unique as the only Denali campground where red squirrels and ground squirrels coexist—alongside occasional moose, caribou, and grizzly bear sightings. Vehicle campers must commit to a minimum three-night stay and can purchase the Tek Pass to access transit buses for deeper park exploration with guaranteed seating on the first day.
Tent campers enjoy flexibility with no minimum stay requirement. The campground operates seasonally from May 20 through mid-September, making it an excellent basecamp for experiencing Alaska's subarctic wilderness, hiking opportunities, and world-class wildlife viewing in one of North America's most iconic national parks.
