Spring (April and May) and fall (late September through October) are the best times to visit, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and comfortable conditions for hiking Cedar Canyon. Summer brings hot, sometimes stormy weather on the plains, though the cave interior remains cool and provides welcome relief. Winter visits are possible since the cave is open year-round on a reduced schedule, but overnight temperatures can drop below freezing and wind chills are significant. Shoulder seasons also bring smaller tour groups and easier campsite availability.

The guided walking tour is the park's signature experience, leading visitors through roughly three-quarters of a mile of a massive gypsum cave. The route is lit and follows a paved path with some stairs, and temperatures inside stay cool year-round. Tours depart from the visitor center parking area, which has room for RVs.
This short loop trail explores the rugged terrain surrounding the cave, passing red cedar groves, gypsum outcrops, and scenic canyon overlooks. The path is mostly packed dirt with some rocky sections and modest elevation change.
Four undeveloped caves in the park are open to permitted spelunkers who bring their own gear and obtain a permit at the park office. Participants should expect tight passages, crawling, and muddy conditions. This activity is recommended for experienced cavers only.
The park is home to five species of bats that roost in the main cave and surrounding wild caves. Evening flyouts during the warmer months offer a memorable wildlife viewing opportunity from designated overlooks.
The day-use area near the visitor center provides covered picnic tables, grills, and a small playground. It is a convenient spot to relax before or after a cave tour and has easy access for RV travelers.
The pale gypsum and alabaster cliffs above Cedar Canyon catch dramatic light at sunrise and sunset. Several overlooks near the parking area provide easy vantage points without a long hike.
Low light pollution in this corner of northwest Oklahoma makes the park a strong stargazing destination. Clear nights offer broad views of the Milky Way from the campground and day-use areas.
