Beacon Rock State Park, WA, United States
The park sits on State Route 14 on the Washington side of the Columbia River, roughly 35 miles east of Vancouver, Washington and about 45 miles or one hour east of Portland, Oregon. The park is just two miles from Skamania on state highway 14. RV drivers should note that SR 14 is a winding two-lane highway with short tunnels and limited shoulders through the Gorge, and the nearby Bridge of the Gods crossing from Oregon has a narrow deck and a weight limit, so larger rigs may prefer I-84 to the I-205 bridge and then SR 14 eastbound. Portland International Airport (PDX) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with dry days, warm temperatures, and open trails to the summit. July and August bring peak crowds and strong Gorge winds, so shoulder months like May, June, and September balance pleasant conditions with easier campground availability. Winters are mild but wet, and the park stays open year-round for camping. Early spring brings wildflowers but also the wettest weeks of the year.
Wet, mild winter; park open year-round for camping.
Frequent rain; occasional lowland snow possible.
Waterfalls at peak flow; wet trails.
Spring wildflowers along Gorge trails.
Pleasant shoulder season for RV travel.
Drying out, longer daylight hours.
Peak season; strong Gorge winds common.
Peak season; watch for fire restrictions.
Great shoulder season; cooler nights.
Fall color along the Gorge; rain returns.
Wettest stretch; watch for wind advisories on SR 14.
Cool, wet; park open for year-round camping.
A mile-long switchback trail climbs the face of Beacon Rock to sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge. To get to the top, hike the mile-long switchback trail. The route uses bridges and railings built into the basalt and is one of the most iconic short hikes in the Gorge. nps.gov/places/beacon-rock.htm
A longer trail on the north side of SR 14 that climbs past Hardy Falls and Rodney Falls to the summit of Hamilton Mountain. Expect a full-day hike with significant elevation gain and panoramic views of the river and Table Mountain. The trailhead has a day-use parking area suitable for tow vehicles.
Beacon Rock is a well-known destination for traditional rock climbers in the Pacific Northwest. For the more adventurous, visitors enjoy rock climbing or hiking to waterfalls. Climbing is typically closed in parts of the year to protect nesting raptors, so check seasonal closures before visiting. nps.gov/places/beacon-rock.htm
The park offers direct freshwater access to the Columbia River for boating, fishing, and paddling. This freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River, maintained by Washington State Parks, has strong currents. A boat launch and day-use area sit on the south side of SR 14. fs.usda.gov/recarea/crgnsa/recreation/wateractivities/recarea/?recid=82344&actid=82
The park has a network of multi-use trails open to cyclists and equestrians with viewpoints over the Gorge. Cyclists and horseback riders will find trails to outstanding vistas, and boaters will delight in the majesty of the area from the waters of the Columbia. Trail miles connect through the upper park roads. nps.gov/places/beacon-rock.htm
A shorter out-and-back from the Hamilton Mountain trailhead leads to Rodney Falls and a viewing alcove known as the Pool of the Winds. The trail winds through second-growth forest and crosses Hardy Creek. It is a good option for families who want a waterfall payoff without the full Hamilton summit climb.
The Doetsch Ranch day-use area on the south side of the park offers riverside picnic tables, open meadows, and interpretive signs. It is a flat, accessible spot with easy pull-through parking for RVs and tow vehicles. A paved path connects to the Columbia River shoreline.
Torrey and Nick are absolute stars. Their Jayco trailer is as advertised. Clean roomie and all the amenities that a family could want on their adventure. Drop off, pick up and use of the fifth wheel was simple and straightforward. Torrey was responsive with all questions and an absolute delight to work with. Would certainly use her services again.

We rented this RV for a weekend getaway and had a fantastic experience. The RV was clean, well-stocked, and spacious! The owner gave us a quick instruction sheet so we felt comfortable using all the hookups and appliances. Everything worked as expected — fridge stayed cold, A/C kept us comfortable, and the beds were surprisingly cozy. Pick-up and drop-off were smooth, and the host was responsive to questions. It made our trip so much easier compared to tent camping. Highly recommend for a fun weekend adventure!”

Jason from the start was great to work with. The unit was newer and everything worked. I did have a few questions while on my trip and he always texted back within minutes. Easy pick and drop off. I will rent from him again. Thanks
