How to get to Big Basin Redwoods

Big Basin Redwoods is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, approximately one hour from San Jose, two hours from San Francisco, and 45 minutes from Santa Cruz. Access is via Highway 9 and Highway 236, mountain roads featuring steep grades and winding sections typical of redwood terrain. Currently, oversized vehicles and trailers are not accommodated for day-use parking due to recovery efforts. The nearest airport is San Jose International Airport, about 35 miles away and approximately one hour by vehicle.

Late spring through early fall, particularly May through October, offers the most favorable weather with mild temperatures and minimal precipitation. July and August are warmest, ideal for hiking, though peak visitation also occurs during these months.
