Late May through early September is the most popular window, when the campground is fully serviced, the beach is open, and warm prairie days average comfortable temperatures for hiking and cycling. July brings peak activity around the Winnipeg Folk Festival and can book up months in advance, so June and late August offer a quieter shoulder-season experience with fewer crowds. September features cool nights, fall colour in the aspen and oak forests, and reduced mosquito activity. Winter visits focus on cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, with most overnight RV services closed.

Birds Hill Lake is a large man-made swimming lake with a sandy beach, grassy picnic areas, and a separate concession and day-use zone. It is the summer hub of the park and offers lifeguard-supervised swimming during peak season. Large day-use parking lots accommodate RVs and trailers.
Cedar Bog Trail is a short self-guided loop through one of the most unusual ecosystems in the park, a white cedar bog with boardwalk sections. The easy walk showcases orchids, ferns, and bog plants and takes most visitors under an hour. The trailhead has a paved parking lot suitable for RVs.
Bur Oak Trail is a gentle forest loop through mature bur oak and aspen woodland on the eastern side of the park. It is popular for birdwatching and casual family hiking. Trailhead parking is large and accessible to motorhomes and towables.
These interconnected trails wind through aspen forest, meadow, and past remnants of historic lime kilns used by early settlers. Interpretive signs describe the park's natural and cultural history. The loop is moderate in length but easy underfoot.
Birds Hill is home to a paved multi-use trail that loops roughly through the park and is popular with cyclists, inline skaters, and walkers. The loop connects the campground, beach, and day-use areas, making it easy to leave the RV parked. Bike rentals are available in season.
The park operates a riding stable and has a dedicated network of equestrian trails through the moraine. Guided trail rides are offered seasonally for visitors without their own horses. Parking near the stables can accommodate trucks and larger vehicles.
Pope's Hill is a high point on the glacial esker that offers one of the best views across the park and surrounding prairie. A short walk from the parking area leads to the lookout. The site is named in commemoration of the papal visit held at the park.
In winter, Birds Hill offers a large network of groomed cross-country ski trails along with snowshoe routes. The trails range from beginner loops near the day-use area to longer intermediate routes through the forest. Day-use parking remains plowed in winter even when campgrounds are closed.

Birds Hill Provincial Park, MB, Canada
Birds Hill Provincial Park sits about 24 kilometres northeast of downtown Winnipeg via Highway 59, roughly a 25 to 30 minute drive. From Brandon, it is about a 250 kilometre drive east on the Trans-Canada Highway, and from the Ontario border near Kenora it is around 200 kilometres west. Access roads are flat prairie highways with no mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades, which makes the park straightforward for larger RVs and towables. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG), about 35 kilometres southwest of the park.
