Late May through early October is the prime window for RV travel, with warm days, open swimming beach, and full campground services. September and early October offer cooler nights, fall foliage across the plateau, and thinner crowds, making them ideal for RVers who want a quieter stay. Winter access continues for ice fishing and snowmobiling, but expect snow, limited services, and cold overnight temperatures.

The park operates a guarded sand beach on the 250-acre lake during the summer season. Shallow, tannin-stained water warms quickly and suits families. Beach parking accommodates vehicles towing small trailers.
The Bog Trail features a short boardwalk loop through one of Pennsylvania's most significant bog ecosystems. Visitors can spot carnivorous sundews, pitcher plants, and wild orchids from the elevated walkway. The trailhead has a day-use parking area suitable for RVs.
Canoes, kayaks, and small boats with electric motors are permitted on the 250-acre lake. A boat rental concession operates seasonally near the beach area. The quiet, tea-colored water winds through stands of flooded timber and bog.
This roughly 7-mile loop is the park's premier longer hike, circling wetlands and traversing forest and bog habitat. Hikers should expect wet, muddy sections year-round. The trailhead connects to the day-use area with RV-friendly parking.
Anglers target yellow perch, pickerel, bass, and stocked trout in the lake and in Black Moshannon Creek. Shoreline access and a boat launch are available. A valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required.
The surrounding Moshannon State Forest offers tens of thousands of acres of public land for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. The Allegheny Front Trail, a 40-plus mile loop, passes through the area. RVers should stage from the state park and day-hike rather than drive rigs on narrow forest roads.
A short interpretive trail near the park office tells the story of the area's lumbering history. Flat terrain and a packed surface make it accessible for most visitors. Parking at the trailhead accommodates RVs.
Our host answered all of our questions and was incredibly flexible with drop-off and pick-up. The RV was as described and the cousins had a great time on our camping trip!

Rented for football weekend at Penn state. RV is showing its age, but very spacious and housed. 3 dads and 3 teenagers pretty comfortably.

Black Moshannon State Park, PA, United States
The park sits along Pennsylvania Route 504, about 9 miles east of Philipsburg and roughly 20 miles (30 minutes) northwest of State College. Pittsburgh is about 150 miles (2.5 to 3 hours) to the southwest via I-80, and Harrisburg is about 110 miles (2 hours) to the southeast. RV drivers should be prepared for the long climb up the Allegheny Front on Route 504, which includes sustained grades, and should avoid narrow forest roads inside adjacent state forest lands. University Park Airport in State College is the closest option for fly-and-rent travelers.
