Late June through September is the prime window for RV travelers, when Bogus Basin Road is clear of snow, summer lift-served biking and hiking are running, and nearby Shafer Butte Campground is typically open from June 15 through September or until snow closes the gate around October 1. July and August bring the best wildflowers and reliably dry trails, though afternoon thunderstorms are possible at elevation. Shoulder months of May, early June, and October can see lingering snow, muddy trails, and overnight freezes at 6,000 feet and above. December through March is ski season, when the access road is plowed but requires traction devices and is not suitable for most large RVs.

Bogus Basin operates as a nonprofit ski area under a U.S. Forest Service special use permit, offering downhill runs, night skiing, and a dedicated Nordic center in winter. It is the closest full-service ski area to Boise. Park at the main lot and ride the lifts or head out from the Frontier Point Recreation Center for groomed Nordic trails. fs.usda.gov/r04/boise/recreation/bogus-basin
Mores Mountain Interpretive Trail is an easy loop of roughly 1 to 3 miles at about 6,600 feet elevation that leaves from the Shafer Butte Picnic Area. The path winds through Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine with wildflower meadows and views toward the Sawtooths and Oregon's Blue Mountains. Trailhead parking is available at the campground, though the final miles are gravel and not suited to large RVs. fs.usda.gov/recarea/boise/recreation/recarea/?recid=5125&actid=50
The Mores Mountain Loop is a 4.25-mile singletrack that climbs about 1,000 feet from the Shafer Butte Picnic Area. It works for strong beginners and intermediate hikers or mountain bikers and showcases subalpine meadows and long views of the Boise Mountains. The trailhead is reached via 3 miles of gravel past the ski area, so most visitors drive up in a tow vehicle. fs.usda.gov/recarea/boise/recreation/recarea/?recid=5125&actid=50
Bogus Basin opens lift-served mountain biking and additional purpose-built trails in the summer months under its Forest Service special use permit. Trails range from flow-style beginner runs to steeper technical descents on Deer Point and Shafer Butte. Riders park at the main paved lot, which has ample space for tow vehicles. fs.usda.gov/r04/boise/projects/archive/62003
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area offers two 9-hole disc golf courses that are free to the public. The courses are laid out across the summer ski terrain and pair well with a short hike or a picnic at altitude. Parking is at the main Bogus Basin lot. fs.usda.gov/recarea/boise/specialplaces/recarea/?recid=5087&actid=29
Miller Gulch Trailhead sits a short distance up Bogus Basin Road in the Boise Foothills and links into the Ridge to Rivers trail network. Options range from a short loop to an all-day ride or hike through sage-covered foothills. Facilities include a gravel parking area, map kiosk, and vault toilet, making it accessible for tow vehicles and smaller RVs. blm.gov/visit/miller-gulch-trailhead
Shafer Butte Picnic Area sits at about 7,000 feet atop the Boise Ridge and offers accessible day-use picnic sites, vault toilets, and sweeping views of Deer Point and Mores Mountain. The drive along Boise Ridge Road from the ski area is scenic but includes 3 miles of gravel, so a tow vehicle or smaller rig is preferable. Access is generally limited to June through early October. fs.usda.gov/r04/boise/recreation/shafer-butte-campground-and-group-sites
From mid-June through August the Mores Mountain and Shafer Butte area fills with lupine, scarlet gilia, sulphur buckwheat, and penstemon, set against Douglas-fir and aspen stands. Black bears, elk, mule deer, and numerous birds also inhabit the ridge. The easiest access is the interpretive trail at Shafer Butte, best reached by driving up in a tow vehicle rather than a large RV. fs.usda.gov/wildflowers/regions/intermountain/MoresMountain/index.shtml

Kyle was awesome . Loved the flexibility in pick up /drop off. He explained how to use everything in the trailer which was helpful . Trailer was perfect size for our trip and everything worked without a flaw . Definitely going to use Kyle again for our next trip .

Steve was an outstanding host the first time I rented and that hasn't changed. He explained everything at drop off time and even helped me load it on the tow hitch. He was available during the trip when I had questions and even made the drive out to double check things when I thought there was an issue with the water tank. Remarkable level of service, care, and concern.

We will definitely rent again from Steve in the future

Bogus Basin State Park, ID, United States
From downtown Boise, drivers follow Harrison Boulevard north until it becomes Bogus Basin Road, then climb roughly 16 miles of steep, narrow, switchbacked pavement to the main parking lot, a drive of about 45 minutes from the valley floor. Bogus Basin Road (Forest Road 297) is a winding mountain grade with tight curves and limited pullouts, so long trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A motorhomes are not recommended beyond the foothills; many RV travelers base at a Boise-area campground and day-trip up the mountain in a tow vehicle. The final 3 miles to Shafer Butte Campground and Mores Mountain are gravel. Boise Airport (BOI) is the nearest commercial airport and a convenient fly-and-rent option, roughly 20 miles south of the recreation area.
