Late June through August is the prime window, when Lake Groton is warm enough for swimming, lifeguards are on duty, and the day-use area is fully staffed. Early September offers cooler air, fewer crowds, and the start of fall color in the surrounding hardwood forest, though swim services wind down after Labor Day. May and October are quiet shoulder periods when RVers can enjoy nearby state forest trails, but the beach facilities and lifeguards are not typically available. Winter access is limited, with the park and nearby campgrounds closed to RV camping.

Boulder Beach's guarded sand swim area on Lake Groton is the park's main attraction. The beach is gently sloped and family-friendly, with lifeguards on duty during the summer season.
Canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are available at the beach concession for exploring Lake Groton's shoreline. The lake is long and narrow with quiet coves and views of surrounding hills.
The park offers picnic tables, grills, and a pavilion near the waterfront. It is a convenient lunch stop for RVers touring the state forest.
Owl's Head is a short but rewarding hike in Groton State Forest with a stone observation tower at the summit offering panoramic views over Lake Groton and Kettle Pond. The trailhead is a short drive from Boulder Beach via Route 232 and New Discovery State Park.
Lake Groton holds lake trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch and is a popular shore and boat fishing destination. A Vermont fishing license is required.
Kettle Pond is a quiet, motorless pond a short drive from Boulder Beach with an easy loop trail around its shoreline. It is a good option for paddling, wildlife watching, and a low-key forest walk.
The Groton Nature Center offers interpretive exhibits on the forest's ecology, geology, and CCC history. Ranger-led programs and guided walks run during the summer season.
