Late June through early September brings the warmest weather, longest days, and full campground services, making it the prime window for RV travel. September and early October are excellent shoulder-season choices, with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong fall foliage across the Camden Hills. Spring trips in May and early June can be chilly and buggy, but trails are quiet. The campground typically operates from mid-May through mid-October, so winter visitors are limited to day use.

Mount Battie is the park's signature viewpoint, topped by a stone tower overlooking Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay. Visitors can drive the auto road in smaller vehicles or hike the short, steep Mount Battie Trail from the campground side. Large RVs should park at the base and hike rather than attempt the auto road.
Mount Megunticook is the highest peak in the park and one of the tallest coastal summits in Maine. The climb to Ocean Lookout offers open views over Camden and the bay. Trailhead parking at the campground accommodates tow vehicles and smaller motorhomes.
Maiden Cliff delivers a dramatic overlook of Megunticook Lake from a rocky ledge marked by a large wooden cross. The loop option via Ridge Trail makes for a rewarding half-day hike. The Route 52 trailhead has a gravel lot suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
The park maintains more than 30 miles of trails open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in designated areas. Routes range from easy forest walks to ridge traverses linking multiple summits. Trail maps are available at the gatehouse.
The park includes a shoreline section across Route 1 with picnic tables and access to rocky tidal coast. It is a quiet spot for lunch, tidepooling, and watching boats in Penobscot Bay. Parking is limited, so smaller vehicles are recommended.
Downtown Camden sits about 2 miles south of the park entrance and offers a classic Maine harbor with schooners, shops, and seafood restaurants. Many RVers day-trip in from the campground by bike or tow vehicle. Parking in the village is tight for larger rigs.
Cameron Mountain is a quieter inland summit reached via old woods roads in the northern section of the park. The route passes stone walls and old homesteads, offering a more solitary hike. Trailhead parking off Youngtown Road accommodates tow vehicles.

Camden Hills State Park, ME, United States
The park entrance sits on U.S. Route 1 about 2 miles north of downtown Camden, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes (about 85 miles) north of Portland and around 3 hours 45 minutes from Boston. From Portland, take I-295 to Route 1 north through Brunswick, Bath, and Rockland. Route 1 is RV-friendly with no tunnels or major mountain passes, but it is a two-lane coastal highway with heavy summer traffic and some narrow village sections, so plan extra drive time. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Portland International Jetport (PWM), with Bangor International (BGR) about 90 minutes away as an alternative.
