Things to do at Cape Chignecto Provincial Park

  • Cape Chignecto Coastal Loop Strenuous
    RV parking available

The Cape Chignecto Coastal Loop is the park's signature backcountry route, a multi-day hike of roughly 50 to 52 kilometres around the peninsula. It follows rugged clifftop trail with views over the Bay of Fundy and links wilderness tent sites and rustic cabins. RVers typically park at the Red Rocks trailhead for day-section hikes.

  • Red Rocks Day Hike Easy
    RV parking available

Red Rocks is an easy out-and-back route from the main visitor centre to a scenic overlook of reddish sandstone cliffs and the Bay of Fundy. It is the most accessible introduction to the park's dramatic shoreline. The trailhead lot accommodates RVs and tow vehicles.

  • Mill Brook Canyon Hike Moderate
    RV parking available

The Mill Brook trail descends from the main trail network into a forested canyon with a small waterfall and mixed Acadian forest. It is a moderate day hike suitable for most fit walkers starting from Red Rocks. Expect stairs and uneven footing near the brook.

  • Refugee Cove Backcountry Hike Strenuous
    RV parking available

Refugee Cove is a sheltered beach and backcountry campsite reached by a strenuous day hike from either the Red Rocks or Eatonville trailhead. The route climbs and descends steeply over ravines and offers some of the best coastal views in the park. Most hikers treat it as an overnight trip.

  • Eatonville Trailhead and Three Sisters Viewpoint Moderate
    RV parking available

The Eatonville access point on the western side of the park leads to viewpoints of the Three Sisters sea stacks and Squally Point. Day hikers can reach the viewpoint in a few hours round-trip. RV parking is available at the Eatonville lot, though the approach road is gravel and narrow.

  • Tide Watching at Advocate Beach Easy
    RV parking available

Advocate Beach, just outside the park entrance, offers a striking place to experience the Bay of Fundy's extreme tides. The long cobble and sand beach is easy to access from the village and pairs well with a park day trip. Parking suits standard RVs and vans.

  • Wildlife and Seabird Viewing Easy
    RV parking available

The park's cliffs and coves are prime habitat for bald eagles, peregrine falcons, seals, and seasonal whale sightings offshore. Bring binoculars to scan the tide line and headlands from the Red Rocks and Cape d'Or viewpoints. Viewing is best on calm mornings at low tide.

Tyler's camper trailer was exactly the thing we needed for a family reunion in Cape Breton. From the initial contact in May to the contract completion in July, Tyler was easy to work with and accommodating. The trailer with upgraded mattresses is very comfortable, roomy and is easy to put up and take down. I will definitely keep Tyler and his trailer in mind for any future reunions. Thank you Tyler for a great experience.

Tyler was the perfect RVezy host. He delivered and set up his tent trailer in my son's driveway so I could have a quiet place to retreat to and sleep. How to get to Cape Chignecto Provincial Park

The Red Rocks trailhead near Advocate Harbour is roughly a 2 hour drive (about 175 km) from Halifax via Highway 102 and Highway 2, and about 45 minutes from Amherst via Parrsboro. RV drivers should be prepared for winding, hilly sections of Highway 209 along the Parrsboro shore, with narrow shoulders and few pull-offs for large rigs. There are no tunnels or weight-restricted passes on the main approach, but fuel and service stops are limited west of Parrsboro, so top up before the final stretch. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
