Late spring through early fall is the most popular window, with May, June, and September offering warm days, ocean swimming, and lighter crowds than the July and August peak. Midsummer brings the warmest water and full beach staffing but also the heaviest traffic, humidity, and mosquitoes in the marsh areas. Shoulder seasons in April and October are comfortable for hiking, biking, and birding, though some services operate on reduced hours. The campground operates seasonally, typically from early March through late November, so winter RV camping is not available.

The park offers miles of ocean and bay beaches for swimming, surf fishing, and beachcombing. Lifeguarded swimming areas operate in summer, and a short walk from the campground reaches the quieter bayside sand. Large day-use lots accommodate RV parking.
Fort Miles is a preserved World War II coastal defense installation with observation towers, bunkers, and a museum inside Battery 519. Self-guided and ranger-led tours explain the fort's role in defending Delaware Bay. Parking is available for larger vehicles near the historic area.
This paved 3.3 mile multi-use trail connects the main park to the Gordons Pond area near Rehoboth Beach, crossing salt marsh on a long boardwalk. It is popular for cycling and birdwatching and is flat throughout. Trailhead parking at Herring Point fits tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
The Seaside Nature Center houses saltwater aquariums, touch tanks, and exhibits on coastal ecology, plus summer programs for families. It serves as the park's main interpretive hub. The adjacent lot has pull-through spaces suitable for RVs.
The park's 24 hour fishing pier extends into Delaware Bay and is a favorite for flounder, kingfish, and striped bass. A tackle shop and bait are available near the pier entrance. The pier lot accommodates RVs and tow rigs.
A network of sandy and wooded paths traverses active dunes and loblolly pine forest in the park's interior. Trails are short and mostly flat, suitable for casual hikers. Access is from the main campground and day-use areas.
Calm waters on the bay side and Gordons Pond are suited to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Seasonal rentals are available in the park, and put-ins are a short drive from the campground. Wildlife sightings include osprey, herons, and horseshoe crabs in spring.
Cyclists can ride directly from the campground onto paved park roads that link to the regional Junction and Breakwater Trail toward Rehoboth Beach. The route is flat and family-friendly. Bike racks are provided at major trailheads.
This trailer looks and smells brand new, loved the layout. Thanks, Lourance for a wonderful trip. Thank you for the extras, a table and chairs and a nice black stone. We could not have asked for more.

Cape Henlopen State Park, DE, United States
The park entrance is just east of Lewes, Delaware, about a 10 minute drive from downtown Lewes and roughly 2 hours from Philadelphia, 2.5 hours from Baltimore, and 3 hours from Washington, D.C. Most RVers arrive via US-1 and Route 9, both of which are flat, wide, and free of tunnels or mountain passes, making access straightforward for large rigs. RVers traveling from New Jersey can use the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, which accepts vehicles by reservation and drops off within a mile of the park gate. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Salisbury Regional (SBY) about an hour south and Philadelphia International (PHL) roughly two hours north.
