Late spring through early fall is generally the most popular window, with May, June, September, and early October offering comfortable temperatures, lower humidity, and active fall foliage in the hardwood sections. Midsummer brings warm, humid weather and peak campground demand, so reservations are strongly recommended. Shoulder seasons are ideal for RV travelers who prefer cooler hiking weather and fewer crowds, while winter visits are primarily day-use since the campground typically operates on a seasonal schedule from approximately April through October.

The Green Trail is a moderate loop that showcases the park's signature transition from upland hardwood forest to Atlantic white cedar swamp and salt marsh via boardwalk sections. It offers the best overview of the park's four ecological zones in a single outing.
The Red Trail is a shorter loop suitable for families and visitors looking for a quick nature walk. It passes through hardwood forest with interpretive signage near the nature center.
Hooks Creek Lake provides a seasonal swimming beach, a picnic grove, and a fishing area within easy walking distance of the campground. It is a popular family destination in summer.
The park's interpretive center features exhibits on local flora, fauna, and the estuarine habitats found within Cheesequake. It is a good first stop for orientation and trail information.
Anglers can fish Hooks Creek Lake and other park waters for species such as largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish with a valid New Jersey freshwater fishing license. Shoreline access is available near the picnic area.
Boardwalk sections along the trail system cross tidal salt marsh and Atlantic white cedar swamp, offering accessible views of an unusual coastal ecosystem. Birdwatching is particularly productive during spring and fall migration.
When day-use areas are open in winter, park trails can be used for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or quiet winter hiking when conditions allow. The campground is not available in the off-season.
Jacek was amazing with communication and having the advantages being able to have the RV delivered and set up was amazing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. The camper was super clean, and comfortable. We had a great time.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

Spent 2 weeks in this beauty traveling the states, and I will say it was perfect. Amazing amenities in a vehicle that is not too intimidating to drive, and a host that is communicative, understanding, and accommodating. It was such an unforgettable journey that formed lasting memories which everyone should experience.

Cheesequake State Park, NJ, United States
The park sits just off Exit 120 of the Garden State Parkway, roughly 35 miles south of Manhattan and about 65 miles northeast of Philadelphia, making it an easy drive from New York City, Newark, and the Jersey Shore. Expect heavy traffic on the Parkway during summer weekends and commuter hours, and note that the Garden State Parkway restricts trucks and certain commercial vehicles on portions north of Exit 105, so RV drivers should verify their rig class is permitted before routing. Local approach roads are flat with no mountain passes, though some park entry roads are narrow and wooded. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Newark Liberty International (EWR) and New York JFK.
