Spring and fall are the best times to visit, with mild Piedmont weather, comfortable nights, and lower humidity than the summer months. April and May bring blooming dogwoods and good fishing, while October offers crisp days and fall color in the hardwoods. Summer is warm and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so RV travelers should plan for air conditioning and shaded sites. Winter stays are quiet and cool, with most services still available and fewer crowds on weekends.

Fishing is the signature activity at Chester State Park, with a freshwater lake stocked with largemouth bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. Anglers can cast from the shoreline, the fishing pier, or from small boats. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older.
The calm lake is well suited to canoes, kayaks, and small fishing boats with electric motors; gasoline motors are not permitted. Paddlers can launch from the park's boat ramp and explore quiet coves around the shoreline.
A network of walking trails loops around the lake through pine and hardwood forest, suitable for casual hikes and wildlife watching. The relatively flat Piedmont terrain makes it a comfortable walk for most visitors.
The park's multi-use trails are open to mountain biking, offering gentle singletrack through the woods. Riders should yield to hikers and equestrians on shared segments.
Designated equestrian trails allow horseback riding within the park, a relatively rare offering in the South Carolina state park system. Riders must bring their own horses and follow park rules for trailer parking.
Shaded picnic areas and a reservable picnic shelter sit near the lake, making the park a good lunch stop for RV travelers passing between Columbia and Charlotte. Tables, grills, and restrooms are available.
The lake and surrounding Piedmont forest attract herons, waterfowl, songbirds, deer, and turtles. Early morning along the trails and near the water is the best time for sightings.
Here’s a polished rewrite of your review: --- Matt was an outstanding host. He was flexible when I needed to adjust both the drop-off location and the rental dates for the RV. He personally met me to hand over the RV, walked me through how to use the equipment, and made sure I felt comfortable. Throughout the process, he was attentive and responsive to my concerns, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable.

Super easy booking and Jeremy was very responsive to all my questions as a first time rv renter. It was all very smooth and super convenient with the delivery option. They were there and set up before we even arrived. The camper was also super nice with a lot of upgraded features. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others!!

Chester State Park, SC, United States
The park is about 3 miles west of the city of Chester on SC Highway 72, roughly an hour south of Charlotte, North Carolina, and about 75 minutes north of Columbia, South Carolina. RVers typically arrive via I-77 to exit 65 at Richburg, then head west on SC-9 and connect to Highway 72. The route is rural two-lane highway with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, but watch for low railroad crossings and tight turns on the final approach to the park entrance. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 60 miles north.
