Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, offers the most comfortable weather and full access to the campground, pool, and summer amphitheater season. June through August brings warm, humid days ideal for swimming and evening events, though it is also the busiest stretch. Shoulder months in May and September and into early October deliver cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall color along the ridge trails. Winter is quiet, with cold temperatures and limited seasonal services.

The Museum in the Park is an interpretive museum inside Chief Logan State Park focused on southern West Virginia history. Exhibits cover Native American heritage, coal mining, railroading, and regional culture.
The wildlife exhibit showcases native West Virginia animals in outdoor enclosures along a short walking loop. It is an easy, family-friendly stop near the main day-use area.
The park operates an outdoor swimming pool during the summer season. It is a popular cool-down spot for campers on hot afternoons.
The outdoor amphitheater hosts seasonal theatrical productions and concerts within the park. Summer evening performances are a longtime regional tradition.
The Guyandotte Beauty Trail is a shorter interpretive path named for a wildflower native to the area. It is a gentler option for campers looking for a light walk from the day-use zone.
The central day-use area includes picnic shelters, playgrounds, and open lawns near Buffalo Creek. It is a convenient gathering space a short walk from the campground loop.

Chief Logan State Park, WV, United States
The park sits just off US Route 119 (Corridor G) about 4 miles north of the town of Logan, West Virginia. Charleston is roughly 65 miles and about 1.5 hours northeast via Corridor G, and Huntington is about 75 miles northwest, making Yeager Airport in Charleston and Huntington Tri-State Airport the closest fly-and-rent options. RV drivers should be prepared for winding, hilly two-lane sections, steep grades on connector roads, and narrow shoulders common to southern West Virginia. Stick to Corridor G and main state routes to avoid tight hollows and low-clearance railroad underpasses on back roads.
