Featured RV rentals for Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

Best time to visit Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

Mid-June through late August is the prime window for RV travel, with long daylight hours, warm afternoons, and full campground services. July typically delivers the warmest water temperatures for swimming and the most reliable weather for boating on the large lake. Early September offers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and quieter campsites, but RVers should watch for early frost and shorter service seasons. Spring can be wet with lingering ice into May, so most RV travellers wait until after the Victoria Day long weekend.

Things to do at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

  • The Caves Self-Guiding Trail Easy
    RV parking available

The Caves is a short interpretive trail along the north shore of Clearwater Lake, where massive slabs of dolomite have split from the cliffs to form narrow fissures and cavern-like passages. Visitors can descend into the cool rock gaps on wooden stairs and boardwalks. Trailhead parking accommodates RVs and tow vehicles.

  • Clearwater Lake Swimming and Beach Day Use Easy
    RV parking available

The main beach area offers some of the clearest swimming water in Manitoba, with a shallow sandy entry ideal for families. Day-use parking, picnic tables, and vault toilets are located nearby. The area fills quickly on summer weekends.

  • Lake Trout and Northern Pike Fishing
    RV parking available

Clearwater Lake is one of the premier lake trout fisheries in central Manitoba, and it also holds northern pike, whitefish, and burbot. A public boat launch inside the park provides access for anglers with their own boats. A Manitoba angling licence is required.

  • Pioneer Bay Boat Launch and Paddling Moderate
    RV parking available

The boat launch on the south shore is the main access point for powerboats, canoes, and kayaks exploring the lake's roughly 24 kilometre length. Paddlers often head toward the sheer north-shore cliffs to view The Caves from the water. Winds can build quickly on the open lake, so check the forecast before heading out.

  • Campers Cove and Pioneer Bay Campground Loops
    RV parking available

The park's main campground offers forested and lakeside loops suitable for tents, trailers, and motorhomes, with a sani-dump and drinking water on site. Some loops have electrical service while others are basic. Sites vary in length, so RVers should confirm site dimensions when booking.

  • Lakeshore and Boreal Forest Day Hikes Easy
    RV parking available

A network of short day hikes winds through boreal forest of spruce, pine, and birch near the lakeshore, offering wildlife viewing and quiet picnic spots. Trails are generally flat and family friendly. Bring insect repellent in early summer.

  • Wildlife Viewing and Birding Easy
    RV parking available

The boreal forest around Clearwater Lake supports black bear, moose, beaver, bald eagles, loons, and a variety of songbirds. Dawn and dusk along quiet campground roads and the lakeshore are the best times to spot wildlife. Keep a safe distance and store food securely in your RV.

How to get to Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

The park sits about 19 kilometres north of The Pas via Provincial Road 287 off Highway 10, roughly a 6.5 hour drive (about 630 km) north from Winnipeg. Flin Flon lies approximately 2 hours north, and the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, with a smaller regional airport at The Pas. RVers should plan fuel stops carefully on Highway 10, as services thin out north of Dauphin, and should be prepared for long stretches of two-lane highway, wildlife on the road at dawn and dusk, and gravel sections on some secondary approach roads. There are no mountain passes or low tunnels on the route, making it manageable for larger motorhomes and travel trailers.
