Fall, from late September through November, is another strong window, with lower humidity and good river levels for paddling. Summer is open and popular but brings high heat, humidity, and mosquitoes along the river. Winter camping is available and mild, with chilly nights and occasional cold snaps.

The park serves as a primary access point for the Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail, a long blackwater paddling route through cypress swamps and Lowcountry forest. RVers can launch from the park landing for short day trips or arrange longer shuttle paddles.
A short interpretive loop winds through mature hardwoods and cypress along the Edisto River floodplain. It is a flat, easy walk suitable for a quick stretch after a day of driving.
The Edisto offers bank and boat fishing for largemouth bass, redbreast sunfish, catfish, and bream. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older.
A picnic area with tables and a shelter sits near the riverbank under tall hardwoods. It is a convenient lunch stop for travelers exiting I-95.
The blackwater habitat supports wading birds, owls, pileated woodpeckers, river otters, and the occasional alligator. Early morning and evening from the campground loops are productive times.
Historic Charleston is roughly an hour southeast of the park, making Colleton a quieter, lower-cost overnight base for visiting the city. Leave the RV parked at the campground and drive the tow vehicle in for the day.
Givhans Ferry State Park, about 20 miles downstream on the Edisto, offers bluff-top river views and additional hiking. It pairs well with Colleton for paddlers doing multi-day Edisto trips.
We had a great time renting this camper and taking it on a family trip to Jellystone Park. Richard had great communication throughout the trip and the camper had everything we needed. Would recommend this camper!
Tripp B. - Jun 2024
Great weekend glamping in Richard’s camper at JI County Park! The camper was in great condition, everything worked, and it had everything needed while away from home. Richard was great at communicating with me from beginning to end. He delivered the camper early and had it setup for our family to enjoy with nothing to do when we arrived. Nice full size fridge. Spacious bathroom. WiFi hotspot was handy. First time renting an RV and looking forward to doing it again!

Colleton State Park, SC, United States
The park sits just off Interstate 95 at Exit 68, making access easy for RVs traveling the Eastern Seaboard. Charleston is about 50 miles southeast, roughly an hour's drive, and Columbia is about 70 miles north, approximately 75 minutes. There are no mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades to worry about, but the park entrance road is a short two-lane rural road, so drivers with longer rigs should take turns slowly. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Charleston International Airport (CHS).
