Late May through early October is the prime window for RV travel, when campgrounds are fully open, the Clarion River is ideal for paddling, and daytime highs are comfortable. October brings peak fall foliage across the hardwoods and the park's busiest weekends, so reservations should be made well in advance. Spring shoulder season (April to early May) is quieter with cool nights and good trail conditions, while winter brings snow, icy roads, and reduced services.

Cook Forest sits along PA Route 36 in Cooksburg, about 80 miles (roughly 1 hour 45 minutes) northeast of Pittsburgh and about 100 miles (around 2 hours) south of Erie. From I-80, take Exit 78 and follow PA 36 north; RV drivers should be cautious on the steep, winding descent into the Clarion River valley near the park entrance and on narrow side roads around Cooksburg. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), with smaller regional service at Erie International and DuBois Regional.
