Winter visits can be dramatic for storm watching, but expect heavy rain, strong wind, and short days. Walking the sand spit is the classic activity at Damon Point, with broad views of Grays Harbor, the Pacific, and distant Westport. Expect driftwood, shells, and agates after winter storms. Stay on the wet sand and respect posted plover closures.
Damon Point is one of Washington's most important nesting sites for the threatened western snowy plover. Birders can also spot bald eagles, brown pelicans, and shorebirds year-round. Bring binoculars and keep a respectful distance from nesting zones.
The sheltered bay side of the point offers calmer paddling conditions than the open Pacific. Launch from the day-use area for flatwater exploration along the inner shoreline. Watch tides and wind carefully before heading out.
From late fall through winter, Damon Point delivers powerful Pacific storm displays with dramatic surf and driftwood-tossing winds. The exposed peninsula makes for memorable wave action from the safety of the parking area. Dress in full rain gear and watch for sneaker waves.
Gray whales pass offshore during spring and fall migrations, and harbor seals are commonly seen in the bay. The open point offers long sightlines in both directions. A spotting scope helps at distance.
The low, open spit delivers expansive horizon views ideal for sunrise, sunset, and long-exposure coastal photography. Reflective tidal flats on the Grays Harbor side add compositional variety. Low tide reveals additional textures and patterns in the sand.
While Damon Point itself is primarily day-use beach, adjacent waters in Grays Harbor support seasonal fishing and crabbing from nearby public access points in Ocean Shores. Check current Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations before heading out. A state fishing license is required.

Damon Point State Park, WA, United States
Damon Point sits at the south end of Ocean Shores, Washington, reached via State Route 109 and Point Brown Avenue from Hoquiam and Aberdeen, about 20 to 25 miles away. From Olympia the drive is roughly 75 miles and about 90 minutes via US-101 and SR-8/12; Seattle is about 140 miles and 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic and ferry choices. Roads into Ocean Shores are flat and RV-friendly with no major mountain passes or tunnels, though coastal wind and soft shoulders near the point call for caution, and the final access road can have soft sand edges unsuitable for large rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA).
