Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the best window for RV trips to Elk Neck, when campground loops, the beach, boat launches and the Turkey Point trail are all in full operation. July and August bring the warmest swimming weather but also the heaviest weekend crowds and humidity typical of the upper Chesapeake. September and early October offer mild days, cooler nights, lighter crowds and excellent conditions for hiking and fishing. Winter visits are possible for day use, but expect reduced services, cold bay winds and limited campground availability.

The Turkey Point Lighthouse Trail is an easy out-and-back walk through meadows and woods to a historic lighthouse at the southern tip of the Elk Neck peninsula. The trail is roughly a 1.6 mile round trip and ends with sweeping Chesapeake Bay views. A dedicated parking area at the trailhead accommodates larger vehicles. nps.gov/maritime/nhlpa/reports/TurkeyPoint2007Report.pdf
The park's sandy bay beach is the main swimming and picnicking hub for day-use visitors. Guarded swimming is offered in peak summer months, along with a bathhouse, picnic tables and a concession area. A large paved day-use lot provides straightforward RV parking.
These connected interior trails wind through mixed hardwood forest, wetlands and small ridges above the bay. Routes range from short loops to longer linked hikes, with moderate elevation changes by Eastern Shore standards. Trailhead parking is available near the park office.
The park provides boat launch access to the upper Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, popular for powerboating, sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Rentals are typically available seasonally near the beach area. The launch lot can handle trucks with trailers and larger tow vehicles.
Elk Neck offers shoreline fishing and crabbing along the bay and rivers for species such as striped bass, white perch and blue crab. A pier and several bank access points are open to anglers with a valid Maryland tidal fishing license. Vehicle pull-offs near the shoreline provide short-term parking.
The peninsula's mix of forest, marsh and bay edge makes it a reliable spot for observing bald eagles, osprey, waterfowl, white-tailed deer and migrating songbirds. Turkey Point in particular is known as a fall hawk-watching location. Quiet morning walks along park trails offer the best viewing.
Thackery Swamp is a short interpretive loop that introduces visitors to the wetland ecology of the peninsula. Boardwalks and signage explain the plants, amphibians and bird life of the swamp. The trailhead has a small gravel parking area suitable for tow vehicles.
Trailer was clean and comfortable... friendly and responsive. Very accommodating made it a great experience.

Elk Neck State Park, MD, United States
The park sits at the southern tip of the Elk Neck peninsula, about 15 miles south of the Interstate 95 exit at North East, Maryland, reached via Maryland Route 272. Baltimore is roughly an hour to the southwest, Wilmington, Delaware about 45 minutes to the northeast, and Philadelphia approximately 75 to 90 minutes north. RV drivers should note that Route 272 narrows as it heads down the peninsula, with tree-lined curves and a few tight turns near the campground entrance, and that the Chesapeake House and Delaware House service plazas on I-95 can accommodate large rigs for fuel stops. The nearest major fly-and-rent airports are Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) and Philadelphia International (PHL).
