Late June through September offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with warm days, open mountain roads, and full access to trails and the interpretive center. July and August see the busiest trailhead parking, especially on weekends tied to Mount Rainier visits. May and October are quieter shoulder months with cooler temperatures, wet trails, and shorter interpretive center hours. Winter visits are possible on clear days, but snow, ice, and tree-fall closures on SR 410 can affect access.

The interpretive center is the park's main visitor hub and features exhibits on Washington's seven native plant zones. RV travelers can park in the main lot and explore indoor exhibits before walking adjacent interpretive trails. Hours are seasonal, so check ahead.
The West Trail is a short interpretive loop through towering old-growth Douglas fir, hemlock, and cedar. The route is mostly flat and suitable for most fitness levels. Trailhead parking is next to the interpretive center.
The East Trail follows the glacial White River through quiet riverbank forest. The path is mostly level with occasional roots and offers shaded walking even on hot summer days. Expect several connecting spur paths.
The Hobbit Trail is a short, child-friendly loop threading through mossy understory and large downed logs. It connects to the main trail network near the interpretive center. The soft surface is easy on all ages.
This interpretive trail is named for a Washington State Parks pioneer and is signed with information about native flora. It links into the park's broader trail network for longer walks. Most of the route is flat and well graded.
Federation Forest offers picnic tables and open lawn areas near the White River, suitable for a midday break between Mount Rainier and Enumclaw. RV travelers can pull into the day-use lot, picnic, and let kids wade in shallow side channels. A Discover Pass is required to park.
State Route 410 through the park is the historic Mather Memorial Parkway, a paved Cascades byway from Enumclaw to Mount Rainier. RV drivers can combine a Federation Forest stop with viewpoints, pullouts, and access to Mount Rainier's Sunrise area in summer. Chinook Pass east of the park closes seasonally with snow. fs.usda.gov/r06/mbs/recreation/mather-memorial-parkway-sr-410

Michael’s RV was excellent. His communication was prompt and clear. The RV is in good shape, drove easily, and was very clean. The snacks and coffee were appreciated and the airport pickup and drop off was incredibly smooth. I’d definitely rent from Michael again on my next trip to Seattle.

Federation Forest State Park, WA, United States
The park sits on State Route 410 about 17 miles east of Enumclaw, roughly a 90-minute drive from Seattle and about 2 hours from Tacoma. SR 410 is the main RV route, paved and two-lane with some moderate grades as it climbs toward Chinook Pass. RV drivers should note that Chinook Pass east of the park closes seasonally with snow, typically from late fall into late spring, so through-travel to Yakima is not possible in winter. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Seattle-Tacoma International, about 60 miles west.
