Best time to visit Federation Forest State Park

Late June through September offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with warm days, open mountain roads, and full access to trails and the interpretive center. July and August see the busiest trailhead parking, especially on weekends tied to Mount Rainier visits. May and October are quieter shoulder months with cooler temperatures, wet trails, and shorter interpretive center hours. Winter visits are possible on clear days, but snow, ice, and tree-fall closures on SR 410 can affect access.

Michael’s RV was excellent. His communication was prompt and clear. The RV is in good shape, drove easily, and was very clean. The snacks and coffee were appreciated and the airport pickup and drop off was incredibly smooth. I’d definitely rent from Michael again on my next trip to Seattle.

How to get to Federation Forest State Park

The park sits on State Route 410 about 17 miles east of Enumclaw, roughly a 90-minute drive from Seattle and about 2 hours from Tacoma. SR 410 is the main RV route, paved and two-lane with some moderate grades as it climbs toward Chinook Pass. RV drivers should note that Chinook Pass east of the park closes seasonally with snow, typically from late fall into late spring, so through-travel to Yakima is not possible in winter.
