Late spring through early fall offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with drier conditions, warmer temperatures, and the best access to beach walks and trails. Gray whales pass by in the spring as they migrate to northern feeding grounds, and return again in the fall, making March to May and September to October strong shoulder-season windows for wildlife viewing and fewer crowds. Summer months draw peak visitation, so reservations are strongly recommended. There is no sani-station available in the winter season, so off-season RVers should plan dump stops elsewhere.

The 1,600 metre sand and pebble beach is the park's main attraction for visitors of all ages. The beach at this park is an ideal location for exploring and whale watching, with views across the strait to the Olympic Mountains. Bring good footwear if you want to walk along the sand and gravel beach. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
A short, family-friendly trail network links the campground, day-use area, and beach. Approximately 2km of maintained hiking trails travel through salt marsh and second-growth forest of Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and western red cedar, connecting with shoreline walks along the beach, and are accessible from the day-use area and the campground. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
French Beach is one of the best roadside whale-watching spots on southern Vancouver Island. Gray whales pass by this park in the spring as they migrate to northern feeding grounds and return again in the fall, while roaming pods of resident killer whales can also be seen offshore, along with otters, seals, and sea lions. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
The park offers varied opportunities to spot coastal wildlife from both forest and shoreline vantage points. French Beach is a great place to observe seabirds, bald eagles, and ospreys, and a number of other animals can be found in the park, including frogs, salamanders, and small mammals such as minks, squirrels, and raccoons. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
Anglers can cast from shore along the pebble beach for a true Pacific coast experience. There are saltwater fishing opportunities at this park, and fishing is permitted as per provincial and federal fishing regulations. Anyone fishing in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
Experienced wind sports enthusiasts can take advantage of exposed conditions along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There are opportunities for windsurfing at French Beach. Conditions can change quickly, so check marine forecasts before heading out. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
A spacious grassy picnic area sits just above the beach and works well for RV day-trippers. A wide swath of green lawn fronts this sand and pebble beach, where visitors can relax and enjoy a picnic or take a cool dip in the ocean. Facilities include a picnic and day-use area, a sani-station, pit toilets, and fresh water. bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/
This was our first time renting a trailer and it was awesome! Mark and his wife were lovely people and it was a pleasure meeting and communicating with them. We had everything we needed in the trailer and it worked perfectly for where we were with no hookups. Anytime we had questions, Mark was very quick to answer and explained everything about the trailer before they left. Thank you so much guys! :)

French Beach Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park can be accessed via Highway 14, 20km west of Sooke, and is located approximately 11km from Jordan River. From Victoria, expect roughly a 75 to 90 minute drive via Highway 1 and Highway 14, a winding two-lane coastal road with tight curves, rolling grades, and limited passing lanes that demand slower speeds for larger RVs. The nearest communities are Sooke, Jordan River, Port Renfrew, and Victoria, and fly-and-rent travellers typically use Victoria International Airport (YYJ) as the closest major hub. Fuel and groceries are easiest to stock in Sooke before the final stretch west.
