Best time to visit Fundy National Park

Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, fully open campgrounds, and the best conditions for sea kayaking, beachcombing at low tide, and festival programming. July and August are peak months and busiest at Headquarters and Point Wolfe, so RVers seeking quieter sites should target mid-June or the first three weeks of September. Fall shoulder season brings vivid Acadian-forest colour and cooler nights, though services scale back after Labour Day. Winter visitors find most RV-serviced campgrounds closed and limited road maintenance on interior routes.

Things to do at Fundy National Park

  • Dickson Falls Trail Easy
    RV parking available

Dickson Falls is a short loop trail leading to one of the park's most photographed waterfalls in the Acadian forest. The 1.5 km boardwalk loop is family friendly and starts from a paved trailhead parking area suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles.

  • Walk the ocean floor at Alma Beach Easy
    RV parking available

At low tide, visitors can walk directly on the exposed sea floor where the bay's 12 metre tides retreat. The bay's waters reach up to 12 m or more, revealing an otherworldly ocean floor at low tide. Parking is available near the Alma village entrance to the park, with room for larger vehicles.

  • Point Wolfe Covered Bridge and Beach Easy
    RV parking available

Point Wolfe features a classic red covered bridge spanning a tidal river, with a short trail down to a cobble beach and estuary. The drive in is scenic but narrow, and day-use parking accommodates mid-sized RVs.

  • Third Vault Falls Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

Third Vault Falls is the park's tallest waterfall at roughly 16 metres and sits at the end of a 7.4 km out-and-back hike through mature forest. The trail is moderately strenuous with a steep final descent into the canyon.

  • Matthews Head Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

Matthews Head is a 4.5 km loop along coastal cliffs with sweeping views of the Bay of Fundy. The rolling trail passes a former homestead and offers some of the best ocean vistas in the park.

  • Sea kayaking on the Bay of Fundy Moderate
    RV parking available

Guided sea kayak tours launch from Alma to paddle the rising tide along sandstone cliffs. The world's largest tides are Fundy's claim to fame, and kayakers can paddle the surging waters at high tide or explore exposed mudflats at low tide.

  • Fundy Golf Course Easy
    RV parking available

The park operates a nine-hole golf course within its boundaries. The course sits near the Headquarters area with day-use parking suitable for RVs and tow vehicles.

  • Caribou Plain Trail Easy
    RV parking available

Caribou Plain is a 3.4 km boardwalk loop through a boreal bog and beaver pond, one of the most accessible interior trails in the park. The flat boardwalk is stroller and mobility friendly, with a large trailhead lot that fits RVs.

Great rental (our second time renting from Joel). Clean trailer, great communications and a big favour to help me out after I screwed up the dates for the rental. Definitely recommend and would rent from Joel again.

Everything was great. Trailer was in place before we got there. Met Joel after we checked out, very friendly and helpful.

How to get to Fundy National Park

Fundy National Park sits along Route 114 on the Bay of Fundy coast, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes from Moncton (about 130 km) and about 1 hour 45 minutes from Saint John (about 130 km). The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM); Saint John (YSJ) and Halifax Stanfield (YHZ, about 3 hours 30 minutes) are alternates. RV drivers should watch for steep grades and tight curves on Route 114 descending into Alma and near the Point Wolfe and Forty Five River bridges, plus narrow shoulders on approach roads. There are no tunnels or weight-restricted crossings inside the park, but trailers should fuel up in Sussex or Moncton before entering.
