Late spring through early fall is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with May, June, September, and October offering mild temperatures and lower humidity than mid-summer. Summer brings the fullest slate of open amenities including the pool, paddle boat rentals, and miniature golf, but it also draws the biggest crowds and the most humid weather. Fall delivers strong color on the park's wooded ridges and quieter campground nights. Winter stays are possible for self-contained RVs, though some seasonal services and day-use facilities scale back.

The Butler-Turpin House is an 1859 home on the park grounds that interprets the lives of the Butler family and daily life in 19th-century Kentucky. Guided tours are offered seasonally and the site is a short drive from the campground. RV parking is available at the nearby lot.
Butler Lake is a 30-acre lake at the center of the park that supports fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish, along with seasonal paddle boat and pedal boat rentals. A paved walking path loops part of the shoreline. Day-use parking near the lake accommodates tow vehicles.
The park offers several miles of wooded hiking trails winding across ridges and ravines typical of the Ohio River palisades. Routes range from short lake loops to longer connectors linking the lodge, campground, and day-use areas. Trailhead parking is located near the lodge and picnic areas.
The park's 9-hole golf course winds across rolling terrain with views of the surrounding hills. Clubs and carts are available for rent at the pro shop. The course parking lot sits beside the main park road.
A seasonal outdoor swimming pool operates near the lodge during summer months, with a sun deck and nearby picnic grounds. The adjacent recreation area includes miniature golf, tennis, and basketball. Families camping at the park often spend afternoons here between hikes.
Downtown Carrollton is a short drive from the park and offers small shops, local restaurants, and Point Park at the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers. It is a convenient stop when restocking the RV. Street parking is limited, so larger rigs may prefer to unhook at the campground first.
The park lodge includes a full dining room serving Kentucky-style comfort food with ridge-top views. It is a practical option for RV travelers who want a night off from camp cooking. The lodge parking area is near the campground loop.
We had a great experience! Communication was great, camper was clean and completely set up when we arrived. I would definitely rent again, and recommend to friends and family!

We had a wonderful trip! The hosts were excellent, and the camper was great! We would definitely book this camper again. It was clean, met all of our needs, and was very spacious.

First time we've rented an RV and James took total care of us the whole way from beginning to the end. He explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. It was the best experience I could have imagined for being the first time. Would highly recommend and rent from him again.

General Butler State Park, KY, United States
The park sits just off Interstate 71 at the Carrollton exit, about 45 miles (roughly 50 minutes) northeast of Louisville and about 70 miles (roughly 75 minutes) southwest of Cincinnati. RV drivers will find straightforward interstate access with no tunnels or major mountain passes, though the park road climbs a steady grade from the valley floor to the ridge-top lodge and campground, so downshift on the descent. Lexington is about 75 miles south via I-64 and I-71. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Louisville Muhammad Ali International (SDF) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (CVG).
