Spring (March through May) and fall (October through November) are the best times for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and prime conditions for paddling and hiking the river trails. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and active mosquitoes, but it remains popular for tubing the Edisto. Winter is mild and quiet, with cool days that suit hiking, though overnight lows can dip below freezing. Shoulder-season weekends fill quickly, so RVers should book campsites well ahead.

Givhans Ferry sits on the Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail, one of the longest free-flowing blackwater rivers in North America. The park is a popular launch and take-out point for day trips and overnight paddles, with a riverside landing accessible from the campground.
A wooded loop along the high bluffs above the Edisto offers shaded riverfront walking close to camp. The trail passes mixed pine-hardwood forest with cypress and tupelo views down to the water.
The Edisto River supports redbreast sunfish, bream, catfish, and largemouth bass right from the park's banks. A valid South Carolina freshwater fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older.
Floating downriver in summer is a Lowcountry tradition, and the park's riverfront is a favored entry point. Outfitters in nearby Canadys and Branchville rent tubes and run shuttles back to the park.
The historic riverside picnic shelter, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, sits on a bluff above the Edisto. Tables, grills, and shaded lawn make it a quick stop between camp and the trail.
The riverine forest hosts white-tailed deer, wild turkey, barred owls, prothonotary warblers, and wading birds along the water. Early morning along the River Bluff Trail offers the best viewing.
Charleston's historic district is roughly a 45-minute drive southeast via SC 61, the Ashley River Road. RVers typically leave the rig at camp and take the tow vehicle to explore plantations like Magnolia and Middleton Place along the way.
This was the second time we rented the RV. Great experience. Very comfortable. Perfect for our experience. Would definitely rent again.

We had a great time renting this camper and taking it on a family trip to Jellystone Park. Richard had great communication throughout the trip and the camper had everything we needed. Would recommend this camper!

Great weekend glamping in Richard’s camper at JI County Park! The camper was in great condition, everything worked, and it had everything needed while away from home. Richard was great at communicating with me from beginning to end. He delivered the camper early and had it setup for our family to enjoy with nothing to do when we arrived. Nice full size fridge. Spacious bathroom. WiFi hotspot was handy. First time renting an RV and looking forward to doing it again!

Givhans Ferry State Park, SC, United States
Givhans Ferry State Park sits off SC Highway 61 between Ridgeville and Walterboro, about 35 miles (around 45 minutes) northwest of downtown Charleston and roughly 75 miles (about 90 minutes) southeast of Columbia. The closest fly-and-rent hub is Charleston International Airport (CHS), with Columbia Metropolitan (CAE) as a secondary option. The route is flat coastal plain with no mountain passes or tunnels, but RV drivers should watch for narrow rural two-lane roads, low-hanging Spanish moss and tree limbs along SC 61, and the park's wooded entrance road, which has tight turns near the campground loop.
