Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, longest daylight, and the best chance for calm days suitable for beach walks and picnicking. July and August bring peak whale and seabird activity along the Cape Shore, though coastal fog is common. Shoulder months of June and September are quieter and cooler, with brisk winds that can limit beach time but excellent coastal viewing. Winter access is limited and facilities are closed.

The wide crescent beach of sand and smooth pebbles is the park's main feature and directly accessible from the day-use parking area. Visitors come to walk the shoreline, picnic, and take in views of Placentia Bay. Water stays cold year-round, so most guests wade rather than swim.
Picnic tables overlook the cove and surrounding headlands, offering a sheltered spot to enjoy lunch with an ocean view. The open lawn near the beach is a popular stop for RV travelers driving the Cape Shore loop.
The cove faces Placentia Bay, a known summer corridor for humpback and minke whales. Bring binoculars in July and August to spot whales, dolphins, and seabirds from the beach and headlands above.
Cape St. Mary's is one of North America's most accessible seabird colonies and sits about an hour south of the park on Route 100. The Bird Rock viewpoint hosts thousands of nesting northern gannets, murres, and kittiwakes in summer. gov.nl.ca/ecc/natural-areas/wer/r-cslmer/
Castle Hill preserves the ruins of French and British fortifications overlooking Placentia, about 30 minutes north of the park. The site has a visitor centre, interpretive trails, and sweeping views of Placentia Bay. parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/nl/castlehill
Point Lance offers a longer sand beach at the end of Route 100, a short drive south of Gooseberry Cove. It is a quiet spot for beachcombing and photography along the Cape Shore.
The nearby town of Placentia has a waterfront boardwalk, lift bridge, and local seafood restaurants. It is a convenient stop for supplies and a meal before or after visiting the park.
This was a great little RV and the host was very helpful. The whole process was surprisingly easy. We took 2 small families camping in this one and had room for everyone.

What a pleasure it was to deal with Cynthia. Her RV was everything we needed to tour Newfoundland and made for an amazing experience.

Right from the start when i first reached out Cynthia was quick to reply & a pleasure to deal with. This continued right up to the rental starting & all the way until the final inspection, she was always there when I needed her. There was a delay with the initial delivery by a number or hours as this was her first rental of the season, however she made up for it by allowing us to keep the RV longer on the final day. There was an unexpected issue with the generator, so she reimbursed us for an expense. There was also a problem with a wiper, which i replaced & she reimbursed us as well. It's a cute little RV, a little tight for our liking, but very well decked out. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in NFLD with Cynthia's Winnebago Fuse! Will consider renting again in the warmer season!

Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park, NL, Canada
The park sits on Route 100 (the Cape Shore Drive) on the southwest Avalon Peninsula, roughly 20 to 30 minutes south of Placentia and about 1.5 to 2 hours southwest of St. John's via the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) and Route 100. The Marine Atlantic ferry terminal at Argentia is the nearest large RV gateway, about 30 to 40 minutes away, making the park a natural first or last stop for RVers arriving or departing Newfoundland by ferry. Route 100 is paved but narrow and winding in places, with rolling grades and limited shoulders, so drivers of larger motorhomes and trailers should travel cautiously. St. John's International Airport (YYT) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
