Mid-June through late August is the best time for RV trips, when Lake Winnipeg water temperatures are warm enough for swimming and all campground loops and services are open. Early July to mid-August brings the warmest weather and busiest crowds, so reservations are essential on weekends. Shoulder seasons in late May, early June, and September offer cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and easier site availability, though some services wind down after Labour Day. Winter visits are limited to day-use and ungroomed trails, with most RV infrastructure closed.

West Beach is the main swimming and day-use beach, backed by one of the largest freshwater dune systems in Manitoba. A wooden boardwalk runs along the beachfront and connects to concessions and washrooms. Large day-use parking lots accommodate RVs and tow vehicles.
East Beach offers a quieter, more natural stretch of shoreline away from the main concession area. It is popular with families looking for a calmer beach experience and with birdwatchers exploring the nearby lagoon. RV access is straightforward from the East Beach campground loops.
This short interpretive loop climbs through forested dunes that mark the shoreline of a much larger glacial lake. Signs along the route explain the geology, plants, and history of the dune system. The trailhead has parking suitable for tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Spirit Rock is a longer forest and wetland trail that winds through boreal habitat east of the main beach area. It offers good birdwatching, especially in spring and early summer. Parking is limited; larger rigs should consider unhooking at the campground.
The lagoon behind the dunes is one of the best birdwatching spots in southern Manitoba, with sightings of piping plovers, terns, herons, and migrating waterfowl. A viewing area near the East Beach side provides easy access. Early morning visits typically offer the best activity.
Paved and gravel cycling paths connect the campgrounds, beaches, and townsite of Grand Marais. The routes are mostly flat and suitable for riders of all skill levels. Bikes can be unloaded directly at campsites for easy exploration.
The marina near the park provides boat launching and moorage for anglers and recreational boaters on Lake Winnipeg. Common catches include walleye, pike, and perch. Trailer parking is available nearby for RVers towing boats.
We enjoyed our experience. Lots of room. The grandkids had so much fun camping.

Really great experience. Owner was very helpful, set everything up, and took the time to answer any questions we had as first time RV renters as well as made themselves available for any questions or concerns during our stay. RV was clean and had the essentials and a good amount of space for our family. We have no complaints and would use this RV again!

Grand Beach Provincial Park, MB, Canada
From Winnipeg, the drive is roughly 90 kilometres northeast via Highway 59, taking about one hour and fifteen minutes in an RV. From the US border at Emerson, plan on about two and a half hours via Highway 75 and the Perimeter Highway to Highway 59. The route is flat prairie driving with no mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades, though prairie crosswinds on Highway 59 can push high-profile RVs, and some secondary access roads near the park have soft shoulders. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG).
