Mid-June through early September offers the warmest and driest conditions for RV travel in the Codroy Valley, with long daylight hours and the best access to estuary viewpoints. July and August are peak months for birdwatching and coastal hiking, though they also coincide with ferry traffic at Port aux Basques. Late May and September are good shoulder-season windows with fewer visitors, though nights can be cool and coastal winds strong. Winter travel is not recommended as services in the valley are limited and snow can close secondary roads.

The Grand Codroy Estuary is a Ramsar-designated wetland that hosts one of the most diverse bird communities in Newfoundland, including waterfowl, shorebirds, and bald eagles. Viewing pullouts along Route 406 and the estuary causeway make it easy to scan the flats from an RV-friendly vantage.
Route 406 loops through the Codroy Valley, linking farmland, river crossings, and small coastal communities. The drive offers frequent pull-offs for photography of the Long Range Mountains and the estuary.
Cape Anguille Lighthouse sits on the westernmost point of the island of Newfoundland, about 30 minutes from the park. The site has open coastal views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and paved roadside parking for vehicles.
The Grand Codroy River is one of the province's best-known Atlantic salmon rivers, with public access points along Route 406. A provincial licence and scheduled season apply, and several pools are within a short walk of roadside pullouts.
The Codroy Valley Wetland Interpretation Centre in Upper Ferry presents exhibits on the estuary's Ramsar status, local bird species, and valley history. It is a useful orientation stop before exploring the estuary.
Long sand and cobble beaches face the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the valley's western edge, reached by short spur roads from Route 406. Wind conditions vary, and the beaches are popular for beachcombing and sunset views.
Local community trails in the Codroy Valley offer easy to moderate walks through mixed forest and farmland with views of the Long Range Mountains. Trailheads are typically signed from Route 406 with gravel pull-in parking.

Grand Codroy Provincial Park, NL, Canada
The park is reached via the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) to the Codroy Valley exit, then Route 406 through Doyles, roughly a 45-minute drive from Channel-Port aux Basques and the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal. Corner Brook is about 2.5 hours northeast on the Trans-Canada Highway, and Deer Lake Regional Airport, the closest airport for fly-and-rent RV trips, is approximately 3 hours away. RV drivers should watch for the Wreckhouse area between Port aux Basques and the Codroy Valley, where strong crosswinds regularly force closures for high-sided vehicles. No major tunnels or steep mountain passes are required on the approach, but secondary roads within the valley are narrow and should be driven with care.
