Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with long daylight hours and dry trails for hiking and riding. October is a highlight, when the hardwood ridges turn brilliant gold, orange, and red. Summer weekends can be humid and buggy, so shoulder months of May, September, and early October offer cooler temperatures and lighter crowds. Winter visits are possible but trails are often muddy or icy and campground amenities are limited.

These rugged loops climb two of the signature hills in the park. Expect short but steep grades and rocky footing, with ridge-top views over the Scioto Valley.
Shawnee Ridge is the park's long backcountry loop traversing the main ridgeline. It offers solitude, mixed hardwood forest, and big elevation changes for a central Ohio hike.
Spring Run is an easier, rolling trail along a small drainage near the main trailhead area. It is a good family option when you want a taste of the park without the steepest climbs.
Great Seal's multi-use trails are a popular mountain biking destination in south-central Ohio. Expect technical climbs, roots, and fast descents on the shared bridle and hiking routes.
The park maintains a dedicated bridle trail system and a day-use staging area for horse trailers. Riders can access miles of ridge and hollow terrain.
Hopewell Culture is about a 15-minute drive from the park and preserves some of Ohio's most significant ancient earthworks. The visitor center and Mound City Group are accessible to all ages. nps.gov/hocu/index.htm
Chillicothe, Ohio's first state capital, sits just minutes from the park and offers restaurants, groceries, and the outdoor drama Tecumseh in summer. It is a convenient resupply stop for RV travelers.
Great space to spend a weekend away in!!! Will definitely rent again. The host exceeded expectations, space was clean / well stocked and he was accommodating when we ran into some car issues on the way in. Highly recommended.

Great Seal State Park, OH, United States
The park sits just northeast of Chillicothe, Ohio, with the main entrance reached via Marietta Road and Rocky Road off U.S. Route 23. Columbus is about 55 miles north, roughly a 1 hour drive on U.S. 23, while Cincinnati is about 95 miles southwest and Dayton about 90 miles west, each around a 2 hour drive. Roads inside the park are narrow, hilly, and can have tight turns and steep grades, so larger motorhomes and long trailers should approach slowly and scout turnarounds before committing. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH).
