Late May through early October is the prime window, when the campground is open, the swimming beach is staffed, and trail conditions are dry. July and August bring warm weather and peak demand on weekends, so midweek stays are easier on busy summer holidays. September and early October offer cooler nights, fall foliage along the lake loops, and lighter crowds, making them ideal shoulder-season choices for RV travelers.

Round Lake Trail is a scenic loop circling the smaller of the park's two meromictic lakes through an old-growth forest of hemlock, tulip, and oak. The roughly 2 mile path is mostly level with a few short slopes and offers consistent lake views. It is ideal for a morning or evening stretch from the campground.
The Green Lake Loop circles the main lake with views of the limestone cliffs and clear blue-green water. The roughly 2 mile crushed-stone path is well-marked and connects the day-use beach area, boat rental dock, and picnic grounds. Most of the loop is flat and accessible.
Green Lake's sand beach is a major draw on summer days, with a lifeguard-staffed swim area, bathhouse, and concession. The cool, mineral-rich water has a striking turquoise tint thanks to the lake's unique chemistry. Beach access is included with the day-use vehicle fee.
Visitors can rent rowboats, kayaks, paddleboards, and pedal boats at the Green Lake boathouse during the summer season. Private motorized boats are not permitted, which keeps the lake quiet and clear. It is one of the easiest ways to see the steep cliffs that ring the lake.
An extensive trail network beyond the lakes leads into upland old-growth forest with maples, beeches, and tulip trees, some over 200 years old. Trails climb gently from the lake basin to overlooks above the cliffs. Sturdy footwear is recommended after rain.
Green Lakes is home to a public 18-hole golf course originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course rolls through wooded terrain adjacent to the campground and day-use area. Tee times are bookable through the New York State Parks system.
Green Lake supports populations of largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and panfish. Shoreline fishing is allowed in designated areas, and a New York State fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older. Boats from the rental fleet can be used to reach deeper water.
Everything was as described. The host made sure we had everything we needed to ensure our weekend was enjoyable. Was accommodating and easy to work with. The camper is older but everything works and in good shape it was perfect for our long weekend racing

Kip was fantastic! Very responsive, flexible on delivery and pick up timing, and right on time! It took a lot of stress out of our travel to have someone so reliable. The RV was spacious and they set up an outdoor rug, chairs and a table for us. They also had bedding available. Highly recommend!

Green Lakes State Park, NY, United States
The park sits just off NY Route 290 near Fayetteville, about 10 miles east of downtown Syracuse and roughly a 20 minute drive from I-90 (the New York State Thruway) at exit 34A or exit 35. Albany is about 140 miles east and Buffalo is roughly 160 miles west, each about a 2.5 hour drive on I-90. RV drivers should note that the entrance road and interior loops are paved but narrow and winding, with low tree canopy in places, so larger rigs should drive slowly and watch overhead clearance. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Syracuse Hancock International Airport, about 15 miles north of the park.
