Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, offers the best conditions for RV travel, with dry weather, warm days, and low river levels for swimming and hiking along the gorge. Summer weekends at nearby Flaming Geyser and Nolte state parks fill quickly, so midweek visits are easier for larger rigs. Shoulder seasons in April and October are quieter and excellent for photography, though trails can be muddy after rain. Winter access is possible but cold, wet, and occasionally icy on the steep roads leading to the gorge rim.
Cool and wet, trails muddy, icy patches possible on steep access roads
Wet winter conditions continue
Rainy, river runs high with snowmelt
Shoulder season, wildflowers begin
Pleasant hiking weather
Warm and increasingly dry
Peak season, best for swimming and paddling
Warm and dry, popular with day trippers
Crowds thin, good shoulder month
Fall colors, rain returns
Wet and cool, muddy trails
Cold, wet, occasional snow on canyon rim
The historic steel bridge crossing the gorge is the best roadside overlook for photographing the canyon's sheer sandstone walls. Parking is limited, so larger RVs should stage at nearby pullouts and walk in.
A forested walk leads to the remnants of Franklin, a 19th-century coal mining town on the rim of the gorge. Interpretive signs describe the townsite, mine openings, and historic cemetery.
The run through the gorge is a classic Pacific Northwest whitewater trip for experienced paddlers. Put-ins and take-outs are located along the river corridor, with Flaming Geyser State Park serving as the common downstream exit.
This adjacent downstream park offers easy river access, picnic lawns, and large paved lots that accommodate RVs. It is a popular float take-out and a good base for exploring the wider Green River corridor.
A short drive from the gorge, Nolte State Park surrounds Deep Lake with a flat 1.4-mile shoreline loop trail. Swimming, paddling, and fishing are popular, and the day-use lot fits most RVs.
Kanaskat-Palmer, upstream on the Green River, is the closest state park campground with RV sites and a dump station. It also provides calmer river access for swimming and fishing.
The Green River supports seasonal runs of steelhead, salmon, and resident trout. A Washington State fishing license and current regulations are required, and bank access is easiest from adjacent parks rather than the gorge itself.
We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!

Danielle is a great host! The trailer was wonderfully laid out and perfect for a family of four. It was very clean and everything worked perfectly! Our family had a great time and would definitely rent from Danielle again!

Steve and Patty were great. Super accommodating, great communication, exceptionally nice and professional, and all around a pleasure to deal with. The RV was great, just as advertised. Overall, it was a great experience.

Green River Gorge State Park, WA, United States
The park sits in the foothills between Black Diamond and Enumclaw, about 35 miles (one hour) southeast of Seattle and roughly 45 minutes from Tacoma via SR 169 and SR 516. RV drivers should note that the access roads into the gorge are narrow, winding, and steep, with the historic Green River Gorge Bridge posting weight and size limits that make it unsuitable for large motorhomes and trailers, so plan to approach via the rim rather than crossing the bridge. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips and is about 40 miles west of the park. There are no mountain passes or tunnels on the main approach, but expect tight turns and limited turnaround space near trailheads.
