Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, offers the most comfortable weather for RV camping with warm days, green landscapes, and access to trails and fishing. September and October bring cooler temperatures, fall color, and the start of hunting seasons, so non-hunting visitors should check activity schedules. Summer can be hot and humid with thunderstorms, while winters are cold with snow and limited services. Shoulder seasons in April and October are quieter but campground amenities may be reduced.

The park offers several miles of trails through oak savanna, pine plantations, and grassland habitats. Routes are generally flat and suitable for casual hikers, wildlife watchers, and photographers.
Small ponds and river access within the site support fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and other warm-water species. An Illinois fishing license is required.
Green River is one of Illinois' most popular public hunting sites, with opportunities for deer, turkey, pheasant, dove, and waterfowl during regulated seasons. Designated dog training areas are available year-round with proper permits.
The on-site shooting range offers trap and skeet fields for public use during posted hours. Check current rules, ammunition requirements, and schedules with the site office before visiting.
Restored prairie, wetlands, and woodland edges attract pheasant, turkey, white-tailed deer, waterfowl, and a range of songbirds and raptors. Early mornings and evenings are best for sightings.
Picnic areas with tables and shelters are scattered through the property for day-use visitors. The open grassland setting is well suited to family gatherings and casual outings.
The town of Dixon, about 30 minutes away, offers historic sites including the Ronald Reagan boyhood home and riverfront parks along the Rock River. It makes an easy half-day side trip from an RV basecamp at Green River.
We had an excellent experience in Josh’s camper. Both Josh and RV easy were a pleasure to deal with and kept in Prompt communication. Both Josh and RV easy were a pleasure to deal with. The camper was delivered as promised and picked up on time. The camper was as advertised with all the creature comforts of home. We will definitely be looking for Josh’s trailer through RVezy for the Labor Day camping trip next year. 10 out of 10!

Green River State Park, IL, United States
The park is located in Lee County, Illinois, near the village of Ohio, roughly a two-hour drive west of Chicago via I-88 and about one hour east of the Quad Cities via I-80. Access is primarily on paved rural county highways off Illinois Route 26, which are generally RV-friendly with no major tunnels, passes, or weight restrictions, though some gravel interior roads may be tight for large rigs. Nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips include Chicago O'Hare, Chicago Midway, and Quad City International in Moline. Watch for low rural bridges, narrow shoulders, and farm equipment on secondary roads.
