Best time to visit Gros Morne National Park

Late June through early September is the prime window, with warm days, long daylight, open boat tours on Western Brook Pond, and all campgrounds fully serviced. July and August bring peak crowds and the best chance for clear fjord views, so reservations are essential. Shoulder seasons in June and September offer cooler temperatures, fewer visitors, and strong fall colour by late September, though some services wind down after Thanksgiving weekend. Green Point Campground is open year-round with reduced services in the off-season, and from October Thanksgiving to the May long weekend it is un-serviced with water shut off and only a pit toilet available.

How to get to Gros Morne National Park

The park is reached via Route 430 (the Viking Trail) off the Trans-Canada Highway near Deer Lake, about a 45-minute drive to the south entrance at Wiltondale. Deer Lake Regional Airport is the closest airport and a common fly-and-rent starting point, while Corner Brook sits roughly 1.5 to 2 hours south and St. John's is a 7 to 8 hour drive across the island. RV drivers should plan for long rural stretches with limited fuel stops, steep grades on the road into Woody Point and the Tablelands, and gusty coastal winds along Route 430. Cell coverage may be limited in some areas of the park, so download offline maps before arriving.
