March through May and October through November offer the best balance of warm weather, lower humidity, and thinner crowds for RV travel. Summer months bring hot, humid conditions and peak demand at the campground, so reservations should be made well in advance. Winter is mild and attracts snowbird RVers on long-term stays, though Gulf water temperatures are cool and occasional cold fronts can push nighttime lows near freezing. Hurricane season runs June through November, with heightened risk in August and September.

The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is a 28-plus-mile network of paved, multi-use trails winding through six distinct ecosystems within Gulf State Park. Trailheads offer bike and paved-path access for walkers, runners, and cyclists, with several lots large enough for tow vehicles.
Gulf State Park's main beach stretches along two miles of white sand on the Gulf of Mexico with a public pavilion, showers, and boardwalks over the dunes. Day-use parking is spacious and suitable for tow vehicles and smaller Class B or C rigs.
The Gulf State Park Pier extends more than 1,500 feet into the Gulf and is one of the longest fishing piers on the Gulf Coast. Visitors can fish for king mackerel, redfish, and pompano, or walk the pier for wildlife viewing.
Lake Shelby is a freshwater lake inside the park offering swimming, paddling, kayak rentals, and picnic areas. The day-use lot accommodates trucks with small trailers and is a short drive from the campground.
The Gulf State Park Nature Center offers ranger-led programs on coastal ecology, sea turtles, alligators, and birdlife. It's a family-friendly stop ideal for rainy or very hot afternoons.
Cycling is one of the most popular activities in Gulf State Park, with bike rentals available near the campground and paved routes linking the beach, lakes, and dune forests. Trails are flat and suitable for riders of all levels.
Calm freshwater lakes within the park are ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Rentals and launch points are available in the park with parking suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Wow, we had a ball in this camper! Me, my husband and our 3 1/2 year old son. We were all comfortable, beds slept great and this camper was CLEAN, looked brand new! The West are so friendly, we can't wait to rent with them again.

Cannot recommend Auburn RV Rentals enough! We were trying to coordinate a busy birthday weekend, including picking up the camper, and Jeff was nice enough to text the morning before our reservation and offer free delivery and setup. Everything was perfect—bedding, towels, kitchen essentials, coffee—everything! We can’t wait to rent from Jeff and Auburn RV Rentals again!

Gulf State Park, AL, United States
Gulf State Park sits in Gulf Shores, Alabama, about 50 miles and roughly an hour south of Mobile via I-10 and AL-59, and about 55 miles west of Pensacola, Florida via US-98 and the Foley Beach Express. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Pensacola International Airport (PNS), with Mobile Regional (MOB) a similar drive. RV drivers should note that the Foley Beach Express is a toll road, and larger rigs should verify clearance and weight limits before crossing bridges such as the high-rise Intracoastal Waterway span on AL-59. Coastal roads are flat with no mountain passes, but summer beach traffic in Gulf Shores can be slow.
