Spring (March to May) and fall (late September to November) are the most comfortable months for RV travel, with mild temperatures, colorful foliage, and fewer biting insects. Summer weekends are busy at the swimming beach and lakes, and humidity runs high, so booking campsite hookups well ahead is recommended. Winter stays are possible since the park operates year-round, though daytime highs can be cool and some programming is reduced.

A sandy day-use beach on Lake Rutledge offers a seasonal swim area for campers. A new bathhouse was built near the swimming beach in 1986 to replace the CCC-built bathhouse. Large paved parking makes drop-off from the campground easy.
Several woodland trails wind through the park's Piedmont forest, ranging from short loops to longer multi-mile routes. CCC projects included damming Hard Labor Creek and clearing land to create Lake Rutledge and Lake Brantley, building roads and bridges, reforesting land, constructing telephone lines, and building the group camp infrastructure, such as cabins, rock walls, paths, and trails.
A dedicated equestrian trail system runs through forested areas of the park. Riders can stay at a separate horse campground with trailer parking and stalls.
An 18-hole public golf course sits within the park and is open to campers and day visitors. Clubhouse parking is ample for tow vehicles after dropping the trailer at camp.
The smaller of the park's two CCC-built lakes is reserved for fishing and non-motorized boats. Anglers can target bass, bream, and catfish from the bank or small craft.
Visitors can explore the grounds of the only surviving CCC worker camp in Georgia. The park is one of ten Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC)-built state parks in Georgia and contains the only extant CCC Camp, Camp SP-8, built for the workers. Two CCC camps were located at Hard Labor Creek, SP-8 and SP-11.
Georgia State University operates an astronomical observatory within the park that hosts periodic public nights. Rural skies away from Atlanta's light dome make for good stargazing from campsites.

Super easy and fantastic experience. Camper was clean and Chad was so great setting it up. Will definitely rent from him again next time I’m in the area!

As a first time RV renter, this was an awesome experience. Sam was a great host and he made the process very easy. Communication and customer service was top tier and the rv was everything as described and pictured. I look forward to renting this rv again.

Sam was a great host, he communicated well and had everything set up before I got there. I was a family of 4 and we had enough room. Shower is perfect size and bathroom even comes with a door so you can go straight outside. We had a canopy and led light outside plus outdoor speakers with a built in radio/ bluetooth that comes with the camper. You won’t be disappointed. Book your next trip with Sam.
