Mid-June through late August is the best window for RV travel, when daytime highs are warm, the beach is usable, and long subarctic daylight extends evening activities. Early July often brings peak warmth and the fewest mosquitoes after the spring hatch. Shoulder visits in early June and early September can offer cool, quiet stays, but nights drop sharply and some services wind down. The park is not a winter RV destination, as roads, water systems, and campgrounds close once freeze-up arrives.

The long sandy beach fronting Great Slave Lake is the park's centrepiece for day use and swimming. RVers can walk directly from the campground to the shoreline for sunset viewing under the long northern evenings.
Great Slave Lake is known for strong populations of northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and whitefish. Anglers launch from the nearby boat ramp or cast from shore at the river mouth.
Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park, about an hour south on the Mackenzie Highway, protects the powerful Alexandra and Louise Falls on the Hay River. Large paved pullouts and viewing platforms make it a straightforward RV stop en route.
Level trails and informal paths connect the campground, river mouth, and beach. They offer easy wildlife and bird watching without technical hiking.
The calm lower reaches of the Hay River and the sheltered bay offer beginner friendly canoeing and kayaking. Paddlers should watch for sudden wind shifts on Great Slave Lake.
The adjacent town is the commercial fishing hub for Great Slave Lake and offers grocery resupply, fuel, and a working harbour to explore. It is a practical base for restocking longer northern RV trips.
In June and early July the sun barely sets, creating near 24 hour daylight. By late August dark skies return and northern lights displays become possible over the lake.

Hay River Territorial Park, NT, Canada
The park sits on the north edge of the town of Hay River, reached via Highway 2 off the Mackenzie Highway (Highway 1). From Enterprise NWT the drive is about 40 km, from the Alberta border near Indian Cabins about 270 km, and from Yellowknife roughly 475 km including the Deh Cho Bridge crossing of the Mackenzie River. RV drivers should plan fuel stops carefully between Enterprise, Hay River, and Fort Providence, watch for wildlife on the highway, and be ready for frost-heaved pavement and gravel patches common on northern roads. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Hay River/Merlyn Carter Airport, with larger connections through Yellowknife.
