Late April through mid-June and September through late October are the best windows for RV travel, with moderate temperatures, flowing waterfalls in spring, and vivid fall foliage in autumn. Summer brings warm, humid weather and the heaviest crowds, so reservations fill quickly on weekends. Winter visits are possible thanks to year-round campground access, but icy trails, frozen waterfalls, and cold nights require cold-weather gear. Shoulder-season midweek stays typically offer the quietest experience on the trails.
Cold with snow and ice possible; trails can be icy.
Still winter conditions; frozen waterfalls common.
Thaw brings muddy, slick trails.
Waterfalls at peak flow; spring rains.
Mild and green; thunderstorms possible.

Old Man's Cave is the most iconic hike in Hocking Hills, a roughly one-mile gorge trail through sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, and stone staircases. The trailhead has a large paved parking lot that accommodates RVs and a visitor center with restrooms. Connects to Cedar Falls and Ash Cave via the Grandma Gatewood Trail.
Ash Cave is the largest recess cave in Ohio, a massive horseshoe-shaped sandstone shelter with a seasonal waterfall. The main approach is a paved, wheelchair-accessible quarter-mile path, making it the easiest of the park's headline features. Large parking area suitable for motorhomes and trailers.
Cedar Falls is the highest-volume waterfall in the park, reached by a short but steep descent into a hemlock-lined gorge. The trail is about half a mile round trip with stone steps. Parking lot fits most RVs, though spaces can fill on weekends.
Rock House is the only true cave in the park, a tunnel-like corridor carved into a cliff face midway up a 150-foot sandstone wall. The trail is about half a mile round trip with a short climb. The trailhead includes a picnic area and RV-friendly parking.
Conkle's Hollow is a deep, narrow gorge with a flat accessible lower trail and a more challenging rim trail above the cliffs. The lower trail is about one mile round trip and stroller-friendly, while the rim loop adds roughly two miles with steep drop-offs. Paved parking area for cars and RVs at the trailhead.
Cantwell Cliffs is the northernmost feature in the Hocking Hills region, known for towering cliffs, a narrow slot called Fat Woman's Squeeze, and fewer crowds than Old Man's Cave. The loop trail is roughly one to two miles with steep stairs. Gravel parking lot accommodates smaller RVs.
The Grandma Gatewood Trail is a six-mile one-way hike linking Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, and Ash Cave along a segment of the Buckeye Trail and North Country Trail. It is the classic way to see the park's three signature gorges in a single day. Shuttle or two-vehicle setup recommended.
The campground area includes a seasonal swimming pool, naturalist programs, and an amphitheater for evening presentations. It is a convenient on-site option for RV families after a day of hiking. The adjacent trailhead offers direct walking access to Old Man's Cave.
Great space to spend a weekend away in!!! Will definitely rent again. The host exceeded expectations, space was clean / well stocked and he was accommodating when we ran into some car issues on the way in. Highly recommended.

Hocking Hills State Park, OH, United States
From Columbus, the drive is about 55 miles southeast via US 33 to SR 664, taking roughly one hour. From Cincinnati it is approximately 120 miles, about two and a half hours, and from Cleveland around 165 miles, or three hours. RV drivers should note that SR 664 and the smaller county roads leading to trailheads are narrow, winding, and hilly with tight turns and limited shoulders, so large rigs should take it slow and avoid shortcuts on unnumbered roads. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH), about an hour north of the park.
