Late June through August offers the warmest Lake Michigan water, long beach days, and full campground operations, though these months book out far in advance. Early June and September are quieter shoulder-season options with cooler nights and fewer crowds, ideal for RVers who prefer easier site availability. May brings the Tulip Time festival in nearby Holland, a major draw but also a peak demand period. Winter access is limited to day use, with campgrounds closed.

The main Lake Michigan beach is the signature attraction at Holland State Park, offering a wide stretch of soft sand and classic Great Lakes sunsets. Paved day-use parking near the beach can accommodate RVs during off-peak hours. Swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing are the primary activities.
Big Red, officially the Holland Harbor Lighthouse, stands across the channel from the park and is one of Michigan's most photographed landmarks. The best views are from the park's channel-side pier and beach. The lighthouse itself is not open for climbing, but the scene is iconic.
The Lake Macatawa unit of the park includes a boat launch providing access to the inland lake and a channel route out to Lake Michigan. Anglers target perch, bass, and salmon depending on season. A dedicated boat trailer parking area is available.
A concrete pier extends along the channel connecting Lake Macatawa to Lake Michigan, offering a short, flat stroll with working-harbor views. It is a favorite sunset spot and popular with shore anglers. Surface can be slippery when wet or icy.
The paved Lakeshore Connector and Macatawa Greenway trails link the park with downtown Holland and surrounding neighborhoods. Cyclists can ride directly from campsite to town in roughly 15 to 20 minutes. The route is flat and family-friendly.
Windmill Island Gardens in downtown Holland features De Zwaan, an authentic working Dutch windmill, plus tulip beds and canals. It is roughly a 10 minute drive from the campground. A worthwhile half-day outing paired with exploring downtown Holland.
Tunnel Park, a nearby Ottawa County park about 10 minutes north, offers a dune-tunnel walkway from parking to beach and quieter sand than the main state park beach. RV day-use parking is limited, so earlier arrivals are recommended. A good overflow swimming spot on busy summer days.
The camper is well taken care of, has everything you would need for a camping trip, and the host was really easy to communicate with and make time arrangements. We had it delivered and everything was very smooth and easy. We have two small boys who shared the oversized bottom bunk. This is a great RV for families, not too tight of quarters but still a very manageable towing size. I would definitely recommend this RV.

Great RV and great communication! RV was fully stocked with everything we needed. We didn’t need to pack an additional kitchen items.

Eric was punctual for both drop-off and pick-up, and the RV was clean and exactly as pictured. His communication was clear and timely, and he took the time to thoroughly explain everything about the RV. He was friendly, polite, and I would absolutely recommend him

Went above and beyond! Camper was spotless. He walked us through how to use everything. Everything was in working order. Very push button. Would rent again.

Holland State Park, MI, United States
The park sits about 30 minutes west of Grand Rapids via I-196 and Exit 44, a drive of roughly 30 miles. Chicago is approximately 175 miles southwest, about a 3 hour drive via I-94 and I-196. Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips. Roads leading to the park are flat and RV-friendly, but the campground loops are tight and busy in summer, so drivers of large rigs should plan arrivals outside peak weekend check-in hours.
