Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the best window for RV travel to Hueston Woods, with warm days ideal for swimming, boating, and hiking. July and August bring peak crowds at the beach and campground, so reservations fill early on weekends. September and October offer cooler temperatures, lighter crowds, and vivid fall color in the old-growth hardwoods. Winter visits are possible for day use, but campground amenities are reduced and cold snaps can ice over the lake.

Acton Lake is a 625-acre reservoir at the heart of the park, popular for boating with a 10 hp motor limit. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish from boats or shoreline. A marina rents small craft and provides boat launch access.
Big Woods Trail loops through the park's old-growth beech-maple forest, a designated National Natural Landmark. The flat loop showcases towering trees more than 200 years old and interpretive signage about the protected woodland. Parking at the trailhead can fit most tow vehicles and smaller rigs.
The nature center houses live exhibits and hosts the park's raptor rehabilitation program with resident hawks, owls, and eagles. Naturalist programs run throughout the summer season. The adjacent lot accommodates RVs and tow vehicles.
A sandy swim beach on Acton Lake offers lifeguard-free public swimming during warm months. Picnic shelters, grills, and restrooms line the adjacent day-use area. A large paved lot provides pull-through parking suitable for RVs.
These interconnected forest trails wind past seasonal streams, fossil-bearing bedrock, and the park's sugar-maple stands tapped for the annual Maple Syrup Festival. Expect gentle grades and shaded walking on natural surface paths. Trailhead lots near the day-use area can fit trucks and small Class C rigs.
The streambeds and shoreline below the dam spillway expose Ordovician fossils, including brachiopods, trilobites, and horn corals. Collecting for personal use is permitted in designated areas. Paved pullouts near the spillway make it easy to stage from the campground.
Hueston Woods hosts a scenic 18-hole championship golf course plus a free disc golf course near the main campground. Both sit within a short drive of the RV loops. Clubhouse parking fits large vehicles and trailers.

Hueston Woods State Park, OH, United States
The park lies off State Route 732 about 6 miles north of Oxford, Ohio, roughly a 45-minute drive from Cincinnati and about 1 hour from Dayton. Indianapolis is around 1 hour 45 minutes west via I-74 and US-27. RV drivers should note that the final approach follows two-lane rural roads with some narrow bridges and rolling grades, so large rigs should take the signposted main entrance rather than local shortcuts. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (CVG) and Dayton International (DAY).
