Spring, from March through May, is widely considered the best window for RV travel to Huntington Beach State Park, with mild temperatures, active bird migration, and comfortable beach days before peak humidity arrives. Fall, from late September through November, offers another strong shoulder season with warm ocean water, fewer crowds than summer, and cooler nights inside the RV. Summer is the busiest season and campground reservations fill months in advance, while winter stays are quieter and the park remains open year-round for day use and camping.

Atalaya is a Moorish-style former winter home of sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington located inside the park. Built in the 1930s, the 30-room house included staff quarters and an extensive garden that features Huntington's work. A self-guided tour brochure is available at the entrance.
The park protects about three miles of undeveloped Atlantic shoreline ideal for walking, shelling, and swimming. Large paved day-use lots near the north and south beach accesses accommodate most RVs and tow vehicles.
A short boardwalk crosses the tidal salt marsh and is one of the top spots on the East Coast to view wading birds, alligators, and fiddler crabs. The trail is flat, accessible, and starts near the causeway parking area.
This roughly 2-mile out-and-back nature trail winds through maritime forest between the campground and a coastal freshwater pond. Birders use the trail for warblers, waterfowl, and raptors.
Anglers cast from the rock jetty at Murrells Inlet or the surf along the park beach for flounder, red drum, whiting, and bluefish. A South Carolina saltwater fishing license is required for those 16 and older.
The park's Nature Center features live reptiles, a touch tank, and exhibits on coastal ecology. Visitors often spot American alligators from the adjacent causeway pull-offs between the freshwater lagoon and salt marsh.
The park's tidal creeks and salt marsh offer calm-water paddling at high tide with access near the causeway. Seasonal ranger-led kayak programs explore the marsh and Mullet Pond.
Brookgreen Gardens, the sister sculpture garden and wildlife preserve across US 17, holds one of the largest outdoor collections of American figurative sculpture in the country. Large vehicle parking is available at the main entrance.

Huntington Beach State Park, SC, United States
The park entrance is on US Highway 17 about 20 minutes south of Myrtle Beach and roughly 30 minutes north of Georgetown, SC. From Charleston the drive is approximately 90 miles, about two hours via US 17 North, and from Charlotte it is around 180 miles, roughly 3.5 hours via I-74/US 74 and US 17. RV drivers should note that the main access roads are flat coastal highway with no mountain grades or tunnels, but the entrance causeway and campground loops are narrow, so big rigs should take turns slowly. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), about 25 minutes north of the park.
