Kill Kare State Park, VT, United States
Kill Kare sits at the tip of Hathaway Point Road in St. Albans Bay, about 6 miles west of downtown St. Albans and roughly 35 miles (about 45 minutes) north of Burlington via Interstate 89. From Montreal it is about 75 miles (90 minutes) south, and the closest fly-and-rent airport is Burlington International Airport (BTV). The final approach follows narrow, winding rural lanes onto the peninsula, so large Class A motorhomes and long fifth-wheels should plan turning room carefully, and trailer drivers should note the boat launch parking is shared with day-use traffic.
Late June through August offers the warmest weather, the best swimming conditions in St. Albans Bay, and full ferry service to Burton Island. Early September is an excellent shoulder window with smaller crowds, comfortable temperatures, and the beginning of fall color in the surrounding farmland. The park typically operates from late May through Labor Day, so trips outside that window are limited to off-season day access without services.

The sandy and pebble beach at Kill Kare is the park's main draw, offering shallow swimming in St. Albans Bay with views toward the Adirondacks. Picnic tables and shade trees line the shoreline for afternoon stops.
Kill Kare is the mainland departure point for the small passenger ferry to Burton Island State Park, a car-free island in Lake Champlain. Day-trippers can ride over for hiking, picnics, and a boat-in only campground experience.
A public boat launch provides direct access to St. Albans Bay for kayaks, canoes, and trailered powerboats. The protected bay is a popular paddling route to Burton Island, Knight Island, and Woods Island state parks.
Open lawns and picnic shelters spread across the peninsula give RV travelers a relaxed lunch stop with sunset views over Lake Champlain. Group shelters can be reserved for larger gatherings.
Anglers cast from the shoreline and the boat launch for smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and panfish common in the northern Lake Champlain basin. A Vermont fishing license is required for visitors age 15 and older.
Hathaway Point offers open water and shoreline habitat that attracts ospreys, bald eagles, herons, and migrating waterfowl. Spring and fall migration periods are especially productive for birders.
A small playground and broad open lawns make Kill Kare a family-friendly stop for travelers with children. The flat terrain is suitable for frisbee, ball games, and easy strolls along the shoreline.

We had a great holiday aboard Le Nomade! Perfect condition, comfortable, drives really well. Cleanliness and communication were impeccable. Sébastien was super quick to respond to the couple of questions we had along the way, and very helpful. The back hitch was a real bonus, as it allowed us to attach a bike rack and open up those possibilities. We have AirBnB-ed travel in recent years and the experience was on par with our best Superhost interactions! Highly recommend this vehicle, and the RVezy process is very straightforward.
