Spring (April and May) and fall (October and November) are the best times to visit, with mild Piedmont temperatures, lower humidity, and colorful hardwood foliage in autumn. Summer is hot and humid but popular for lake-side relaxation and shaded hiking. Winter is quiet, and while campgrounds generally remain open, occasional cold snaps and rain can limit comfort for tent and small RV travelers. Shoulder seasons typically see lighter weekend crowds, making reservations easier for larger rigs.

The Park Loop Trail is a long-distance hiking route that links Kings Mountain State Park with the adjacent national military park. Together the two parks offer 16 miles of hiking trails, with the 16-mile Park Loop passing through both and taking a full day to complete. Trailheads with parking are located near the state park campground and at the national park visitor center. nps.gov/articles/000/backcountry-trails.htm
The park's Living History Farm recreates a mid-19th-century Piedmont yeoman farmstead with period structures, gardens, and farm animals. It is a short, mostly level walk from designated parking and is suitable for families. Seasonal programming and special events bring the farm to life on select weekends.
Two small lakes inside the state park offer catch-and-release fishing, paddling, and scenic picnicking. Shoreline picnic areas provide RV-friendly day-use parking and restrooms. The Clarks Creek trail runs 3 miles from the national park visitor center to Lake Crawford in the state park, a 6-mile round trip.
Kings Mountain State Park maintains a dedicated network of equestrian trails and a separate equestrian campground for riders trailering horses. Trails wind through mature hardwood forest and cross streams, with varied terrain suitable for intermediate riders. Non-riders can share some multi-use sections on foot.
The adjacent national military park preserves the site of the October 7, 1780 Revolutionary War battle, a pivotal American victory. A paved 1.5-mile battlefield loop trail begins at the visitor center and features interpretive waysides, the US memorial, and the grave of British Major Patrick Ferguson. nps.gov/kimo/index.htm
Browns Mountain Trail is an out-and-back route to one of the higher points in the area. The 2.5-mile trail leads from the visitor center to the top of Browns Mountain and is not a loop, requiring hikers to backtrack for a total hike of 5 miles. Start at the national military park visitor center, which has large paved parking suitable for RVs. nps.gov/articles/000/backcountry-trails.htm
The park retains historic stone and timber picnic shelters built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. These shaded areas are clustered near day-use parking lots with pull-through access for larger vehicles. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Kings Mountain State Park Historic District. npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/08000185
Here’s a polished rewrite of your review: --- Matt was an outstanding host. He was flexible when I needed to adjust both the drop-off location and the rental dates for the RV. He personally met me to hand over the RV, walked me through how to use the equipment, and made sure I felt comfortable. Throughout the process, he was attentive and responsive to my concerns, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable.

Kings Mountain State Park, SC, United States
The park is about a 45-minute drive (roughly 35 miles) west of Charlotte, North Carolina, and about 75 miles north of Columbia, South Carolina, via I-85 and state highways through Blacksburg. Access roads are paved two-lane routes with some moderate grades and tight curves near the park entrance, so drivers of longer Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should take them slowly. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on common approaches, but leaf-covered or wet pavement in fall and winter can reduce traction on hills. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), approximately 40 miles east.
