Late June through August offers the warmest lake temperatures for swimming and the most reliable weather for boating and picnicking. Early September is a strong shoulder option, with lighter crowds, cooler nights comfortable for nearby campgrounds, and the start of fall color in the Champlain Valley. May and October can be scenic but chilly, and some facilities scale back or close outside the main season. Weekends in July and August are busiest, so weekday visits are easier for RVers arriving from nearby parks.

Kingsland Bay offers a sheltered swimming area along the rocky Lake Champlain shoreline, protected by the surrounding point. The calm water is well suited to families, and the adjacent lawn is popular for picnics and sunbathing.
The McCuen Slang Trail is a short, easy walking loop through woods and along the water at the park's northern edge. It passes a quiet inlet popular with birdwatchers and offers lake views along the way.
A small boat launch provides access to Lake Champlain for kayaks, canoes, and trailered boats. Paddlers often explore the sheltered bay, the rocky shoreline, and nearby coves within the broader Champlain Valley.
The park grounds include open lawns, picnic pavilions, and the historic 19th-century Hawley House overlooking the bay. It is a popular spot for lakeside picnics and weddings, with sweeping sunset views across the water.
Anglers can fish from the shoreline or launch small boats in pursuit of bass, perch, pike, and panfish common to this stretch of Lake Champlain. A Vermont fishing license is required for visitors age 15 and older.
Kingsland Bay features tennis courts laid out near the park's open fields, free to play during open hours. They provide a low-key alternative to water activities on busy summer days.
The quiet inlet known as McCuen Slang attracts herons, waterfowl, and songbirds in the sheltered marsh habitat. Morning visits offer the best chances to spot wildlife along the calm water.

Kingsland Bay State Park, VT, United States
Kingsland Bay State Park is located in Ferrisburgh, Vermont, about a 30 minute drive south of Burlington and roughly 15 minutes north of Vergennes via US Route 7 and Little Chicago Road. From Montreal it is about a 2 hour 15 minute drive, and from Albany, New York it is about 2 hours 45 minutes. Access roads are paved but narrow in places near the park entrance, so larger RVs should take the final approach slowly and watch for tight turns and low branches. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Burlington International Airport (BTV), about 35 to 40 minutes north.
