Best time to visit Lake Cascade State Park

Late June through early September is the prime RV window, with warm days, open campgrounds, and full access to swim beaches and boat ramps. July and August bring peak crowds and reservation pressure, so weekday arrivals are easier. Shoulder seasons in late May and September offer cooler nights and quieter campgrounds, but overnight freezes are possible and some loops may not have water turned on. Winter access continues for ice fishing and snowmobiling, though most campgrounds close and roads can require traction devices.

How to get to Lake Cascade State Park

The park sits along State Highway 55, approximately 70 miles north of Boise via the Payette River Scenic Byway, a drive of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. The recreational city of McCall is 29 miles north, and the village of Donnelly sits a little over midway via Highway 55. RVers should prepare for the Horseshoe Bend hill and the winding canyon stretch of Highway 55 between Banks and Smiths Ferry, which includes narrow shoulders, rockfall zones, and limited pullouts for longer rigs. Boise Airport (BOI) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
