Spring, from late March through May, and fall, from September through early November, are the best windows for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and comfortable hiking conditions. Summer brings warm lake days ideal for swimming and boating, but also high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and peak weekend crowds at the campgrounds. Winter is mild but wet, with cooler nights and fewer visitors, making shoulder-season weekdays a good option for quieter sites. Reservations fill quickly for holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Falls Branch Trail is a short hiking trail within Lake Catherine State Park that leads to a small seasonal waterfall in a forested ravine. The path winds through pine and hardwood woodland and is popular for a quick outing from the campground. Water flow is strongest in spring and after heavy rain.
Lake Catherine is an Ouachita River reservoir with coves, islands, and shoreline cliffs ideal for boating, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The park marina provides a boat launch and rentals in season. The lake is calm in the mornings and popular for sunset paddles in summer.
Lake Catherine is a year-round fishing destination known for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. Anglers can fish from the bank, the park fishing pier, or a boat launched from the marina. A valid Arkansas fishing license is required.
The park beach offers a designated swim area on Lake Catherine with a gentle shoreline suitable for families. It is a popular cool-down spot during hot Arkansas summers. There are no lifeguards on duty.
Horseshoe Mountain Trail is a backcountry hiking route inside the park that climbs through mixed forest with ridge views of the lake and surrounding Ouachita foothills. It is longer and more rugged than the park's other trails, making it best for experienced hikers. Carry water and expect limited shade in some sections.
Hot Springs National Park is a short drive from Lake Catherine and preserves historic thermal springs and bathhouses in downtown Hot Springs. Visitors can tour Bathhouse Row, hike forested mountain trails, and see the park's namesake hot springs. It pairs well with a multi-night RV stay at Lake Catherine. nps.gov/hosp/
The park contains historic stone structures, picnic areas, and pavilions built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Several picnic sites sit along the lakeshore with views of the water. This is an easy activity suitable for all ages.

Lake Catherine State Park, AR, United States
The park is located southeast of Hot Springs, Arkansas, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from downtown Hot Springs and about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes southwest of Little Rock via Interstate 30 and Arkansas Highway 171. Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips. RV drivers should note that Highway 171 into the park is a narrow, winding two-lane road with rolling grades and tight curves as it approaches the lake, so take it slow with larger rigs and trailers. There are no tunnels or significant mountain passes on the approach.
