Spring (April and May) and fall (September through early November) are the best months to visit, with mild daytime temperatures, lower humidity, and comfortable nights for RV camping. Summer is peak season for boating and swimming on Lake Hartwell, but expect hot, humid weather and higher campground demand, so book early. Winter stays are possible because the park and campground remain open year-round, though some amenities run on reduced schedules and occasional cold snaps can freeze hookups.
Cool winter days; freeze protection recommended for water hookups.
Spring weather begins; early shoulder season.
Pleasant days, cool nights, strong shoulder-season pick.
Lake season begins; book sites early.
Peak summer heat, humidity, and crowds; afternoon thunderstorms common.
Peak season; reservations recommended well in advance.
Lower humidity returns; excellent RV weather.
Fall colors near the lake; strong shoulder season.
Quiet season; occasional freezing nights.
Lake Hartwell is a 56,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir known for largemouth bass, hybrid bass, crappie, catfish, and bream. The park includes a boat ramp with trailer parking, giving RV visitors direct lake access for day trips on the water.
A short, family-friendly interpretive loop winds through pine and hardwood forest near the campground. The trail is flat with minimal elevation gain, making it easy for most ages and abilities.
The park visitor center offers interpretive exhibits on local ecology, the Savannah River basin, and the history of Lake Hartwell. It is a good rainy-day stop and an orientation point for first-time visitors.
Picnic areas with tables and grills are set along the shoreline, offering open lake views. Several picnic shelters are available for day-use groups.
Anglers can fish directly from the park's shoreline and fishing pier without needing a boat. A valid South Carolina freshwater fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older.
Swimming is permitted in designated shoreline areas of the park during warmer months. There is no lifeguard on duty, so visitors swim at their own risk.
The park makes a convenient base for day trips to nearby upstate attractions such as Oconee State Park, Stumphouse Tunnel, and the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River corridor. Most destinations are within an hour's drive on paved highways.

My Family and I had a Blessed Time camping with Friends! Thanks to Christian - His prompt professional actions/responses were exactly what we needed to elevate our weekend Fellowship! We had multiple RV vendors, we had multiple camp sites reserved near “Host” site and a variation of experiences - seasoned campers as well as beginners/virgin campers. The group voted Christian’s “Campsite Reserve” RV the overall Best!!! My Family 💯% Agree!!!

Lake Hartwell State Park, SC, United States
The park sits just off Interstate 85 at Exit 1 in Fair Play, about 45 minutes southwest of Greenville, South Carolina, and roughly 2 hours northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Access roads are flat, paved, and free of tunnels or steep mountain grades, making the approach straightforward for large RVs and towables. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Greenville-Spartanburg International (GSP), about 60 miles east, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), about 120 miles southwest. Drivers should watch for low-clearance gas station canopies at the I-85 Exit 1 truck stops and stay on main park roads, which are paved and RV-friendly.
