Late May through early September is the best window for RV travelers, with warm days, open swimming, and the campground and concession in full operation. July and August bring the strongest beach and paddling weather but also the busiest weekends, so reservations are recommended well in advance. Early June and the weeks after Labor Day offer quieter sites and mild temperatures, while late September and early October are excellent for Litchfield Hills foliage drives around the lake.

The park's long sandy beach on the northwest shore is the main draw for families and RV guests. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season, and shaded picnic tables sit just back from the water.
Lake Waramaug is one of Connecticut's larger natural lakes and offers calm flat-water paddling. Bring a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard and launch from the park's shoreline to explore coves and the wooded far shore.
Anglers cast from the park's shoreline and boat launch for bass, trout, and panfish. A Connecticut fishing license is required for anyone sixteen and older.
Picnic groves under mature shade trees line the water and are popular for day trips. Tables, grills, and restrooms make this a convenient stop for RV travelers touring the Litchfield Hills.
A roughly 8 mile paved road circles the lake past vineyards, farms, and historic homes. It is a scenic drive from the RV and a favorite road cycling route, though the narrow shoulders mean cyclists should use caution.
The park provides a launch for small trailered boats and car-top craft. Electric motors and small outboards are common; check current state rules on horsepower and invasive species inspections.
Just outside the park, the Steep Rock Association's Hidden Valley Preserve in Washington offers miles of trails along the Shepaug River, including the photogenic Henry David Thoreau footbridge. Trailhead parking is limited, so arrive early with a smaller tow vehicle if possible.
Easy pick up and drop off. Joe and Kim go over and above to make sure your experience with the vehicle is a positive one.

We were very pleased with our rental from Joe and Kim. The response when we had a question was instant. The unit was clean and the functionality for a 2005 unit was surprisingly good. Would definitely rent from them again.

Lake Waramaug State Park, CT, United States
The park sits on North Shore Road in New Preston, about 15 minutes from Route 7 in Kent and roughly 40 minutes (about 25 miles) from Danbury. Driving from Hartford takes about 1 hour 15 minutes, and from New York City it is roughly 2 hours via I-684 and Route 22. Approach roads are narrow, winding rural two-lane routes with some tight turns and hills, so large Class A motorhomes and long fifth wheels should plan routes carefully and avoid the steepest shortcuts. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Hartford Bradley International (BDL) and Westchester County (HPN).
