Late June through early September offers the most reliable weather, with warm days, cool nights, and low precipitation that pair well with river activities and trail use. July and August are the peak season, so campsite reservations fill quickly on weekends. May, early June, and September work well as shoulder months with fewer crowds, though overnight lows can drop below freezing. Winter camping is possible with electric hookups, but expect snow on the ground and cold temperatures.

Cold and snowy; good for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Snow melt begins; overnight lows still well below freezing.

Reliable camping weather begins late month.

A short, flat walk leads to the Big Tree, believed to be the largest ponderosa pine in Oregon. The trail is easy and well-signed, making it a must-do stop for most visitors. Parking at the trailhead accommodates standard vehicles and smaller RVs.
The Deschutes River Trail follows the river through pine forest and open meadows inside the park. It connects with longer routes that extend north toward Sunriver. Terrain is mostly level, with options for short strolls or half-day hikes.
The park provides shoreline and wade-fishing access to the upper Deschutes River, known for rainbow and brown trout. The nearby Fall River, a spring-fed fly-fishing stream, is a short drive away. Oregon fishing regulations and a license apply.
Calm sections of the Deschutes near the park are suitable for canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Launch points within the park offer easy access for beginner and intermediate paddlers. Water is cold year-round, so plan accordingly.
The park has paved and unpaved multi-use paths that link to the broader Deschutes National Forest trail network. Riders can connect from the campground to day-use areas without driving. Most routes are rated easy to moderate.
In winter the park grooms trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through the pine forest. Trails are generally flat and beginner-friendly. Dress for cold temperatures and bring traction for the campground roads.
Newberry National Volcanic Monument is a short drive north of the park and features Paulina and East Lakes, Big Obsidian Flow, and Lava River Cave. It makes a full-day outing from a basecamp at LaPine State Park. Some monument roads close in winter.

Lindsi and Scott were great to work with! The trailer was as described on the website. We had a small problem with the awning that was quickly corrected. We will rent from Lindsi and Scott again.

LaPine State Park, OR, United States
The park is reached via State Recreation Road off US Highway 97, about 27 miles south of Bend and 8 miles north of the town of La Pine. From Bend the drive is roughly 35 minutes, from Eugene about 2.5 hours over the Cascades via Willamette Pass (Highway 58), and from Portland about 3.5 hours. RV drivers crossing the Cascades on Highway 58 or Highway 22 should expect long steep grades, tight curves, and possible snow or chain requirements from late fall through spring. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM), about 45 miles north.
