The best months for RV travel are October through April, when daytime highs are mild and nights are cool but rarely freezing for long. Spring brings wildflowers and strong birding along the Rio Grande corridor, while summer sees daytime highs routinely above 95°F and monsoon thunderstorms from July into September. Winter is the quiet shoulder, with sunny days ideal for snowbirds escaping colder climates. Avoid peak midsummer afternoons if traveling without reliable air conditioning.

A short walk leads to views of the historic Leasburg Diversion Dam, a low concrete weir on the Rio Grande. Leasburg Diversion Dam was the first dam completed on the Bureau of Reclamation's historic Rio Grande Project, and at only 10 feet high it still plays an integral role in the project. Interpretive signs explain the early 20th century engineering. nps.gov/articles/new-mexico-leasburg-diversion-dam.htm
